Hello everyone!
I am finishing my undergraduate education and will be taking a year (maybe two) off before I apply to graduate school. I did bad in my classes my first year of college getting roughly six Cs. Since then, I have done really well. I have gotten almost all As in my Bio upper divs and a few Bs in some other classes. I want to retake the classes from my first year before I apply to med school because it is keeping my GPA low at around a 3.3. I was originally going to do a post bacc that would let me retake my lower div courses but I don't have the money to do this. I am now thinking of retaking my classes at either a community college or perhaps an open university.

Is there a difference to med schools if I retake lower div courses at a community college or open university?
Do they prefer one over the other?
Are there any other ways I can retake classes?

Anything helps!

From what adcoms have said on previous posts, most DO schools do not care if you take classes at CC. All DO schools accept CC and online credits but I have heard MD schools are more likley to look down on CC credits and some MD schools will not accept them. Also, grade replacement for DO is gone so retaking a course will count the same as a new course. DO adcoms on this site have said that it does help to retake the prereq science classes to show you can handle them but other than that, I would avoid retaking a non prereqs class. A 3.3 for DO is not bad. There are tons of students in the underdogs thread that got in with a 3.1-3.3 paired with an above average MCAT and upward trend. If you did 30 or so credits of postbac and got a 3.7+ If say you should have atleast one acceptance at DO with a 505+ MCAT. MD might be a little tougher as they seem to give less weight to upward trends.
