i barely failed the CPJE and i need to do the retake in december (hopefully). for those of you who failed the first time and passed the retake, i was if you wouldn't mind sharing stories on what you did different and how you studied for it the 2nd time around.

i've been using rxprep and weissman. should i just look over these again more carefully and just hope for the best? i tend to be a bad test-taker in general since i do overthink my questions and change answers constantly.

some friends let me borrow their sigler drug cards and prontopass cards. what are your thoughts on these resources?

any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you 🙂

Hi,

I am in the same situation as yours, if you would like to get in touch, please PM me. I missed it by one point. Eligible for retake in dec. It would be good if we can guide each other.

i would like to join this group as well. Please PM me.

I am planning to retake it in November. I used weissman, rxprep and APhA for my first attempt. I also used passnaplexnow. I did not attend the lecture for passnaplexnow, I just have the book. I was told that a lot of materials are covered during the passnaplexnow lecture that are not in the book so I did not use it often. Is this true? What are you using to study for the CPJE?

Ok guys

I went to pharmacy school in NJ and am licensed in NJ. I just took the CPJE yesterday. I have to say the clinical questions were a pleasure. I had about 75 clinical questions and 15 law questions. I think the clinical questions really make you apply things you have learnt. I used the KAPLAN book for reviewing and the Weissman law book. I have to say I did not pay much attention to law thinking there will be fewer than 14 questions on the exam which was a fault of my preparation.

I do not have my scores yet and have no idea whether I passed or not. Just wanted to share my experience. Good luck everyone.

Hi Future Pharmacists:

How are you? I have failed both NAPlex and CPJE. I am very down and crashed due to results I got. I have studied so hard for the exams, but still not make it. I do not know what to study to improve my score and pass it. I really need your helps. I deeply appreciated all advice and suggestion on how to study, what topics should I focus on, what are best material to study. If you have a good practice exams, would you share with me? I have used RXPrep and APHA book for my exam preparations.

Thank you very much and good luck everyone🙂

NAPLEX:

i used rxprep as well and i passed the naplex just fine (and was only a couple points away from passing the CPJE). were you focused too much on the APhA book? the APhA book definitely goes above and beyond what you might need to know to pass. this is just my opinion, but, i think if you're solid on math and know just a decent amount of everything else, you're set for the NAPLEX. take the prenaplex too. it definitely helps predict whether or not you'll pass.

CPJE:

+pissed+

i just wish i wasn't cracked out on coffee that morning and made all those stupid mistakes on the exam. plus, i wish i didn't take it at the carson location. they have a singing class next door that ear plugs and headphones won't muffle out.

Maryland, what are using to study for the cpje?

same things i used to study before - rxprep and weissman. i'm also going to go over the sigler drug cards.

honestly i think i failed because i took the CPJE way too soon (2 days) after my NAPLEX. i didn't even finish reading weissman, partly because i had no motivation to when people told me that they only had 1-2 law questions on the exam. i had like 15. FML. stupidest advice ever.

for those who failed recently, did any of you schedule your retake already? everything's grayed out when i tried to. are we not allowed to SCHEDULE the exam until 90 days after our failed exam?

Any suggestion or share how you guys study differently to prepare for retaking the NAPLEX AND CPJE? What are the best practice exams source outthere on the martket that I can buy to do more practice? I think I need more practice on the question type and calculation. If you have any good practice book, please let me know the title and author? I have sent in the retake exam application, but have not heard anything from the board of pharm yet. I am not sure how long I have to wait; anyone knows?

Thanks

Answering my own question on why I can't seem to schedule my retake, I called Psiexams and they told me that they haven't looked at December test dates yet. They schedule exams only about a month ahead. So, if you failed September, you can't really schedule until November for a December retake.

There is no such thing as barely failed. A fail is a fail and there's no way around it. Better luck with word choice next time girlfriend...

OH GREAT, A BUNCH OF FAILURES JOINING FORCES!!! Good luck with that :luck:

Hi Everyone who has taken the CPJE!!!

I recently took my CPJE on October 14th 2010... Any ideas when I will be hearing from the boards? Some say few days and some say few months...

When did you take it and how long did you all wait for the results?

I felt like the exam was mainly clinical, I had about 7-8 questions on Law and 5-6 of my questions came from the sample exam on the California Bullentin board.

Overall, I thought it went pretty well... Just need to know what to expect next....

Any feedback is appreciated!

I just sent the application to retake CPJE. Does anyone know if the application can't be processed for some reasons (eg: missing a SSN on the application), the BOP will let us know before 3 - month period?

Thanks

it doesnt matter how much you study, but it's how you study more effectively. If you keep studying like you did ,you will fail again....So be smart

I failed the CPJE first time. studied Rx prep, Kaplan and weissman. Just thought of what would make sense for the answer during the exam.I took more time to think through the exam. I passed the second time around.

Hi marylandpharm,

You need to send the documents to retake the cpje as soon as you know you have not passed as the board of pharmacy may take 2 months to process the application. The 90 day wait time is from PSI the onces who conduct the exam.

Lets say I took the CPJE on 1st September and got my results that I did not pass on 21th September then I need not wait 90 days to apply to the Board of Pharmacy to retake the CPJE. But should apply on 22nd september to the Board and then register with PSI after 90 days hopefully that Board of pharmacy approves you to retake exam during that time.

Regards

how far in advance did you send your app to the board. i also read where it says it takes 15 days so I sent it in a month before im eligible i hope there is no delay!

This is also how I remember it. You can register ASAP but you can only sit for the CPJE 3 months after your last attempt.

Apply ASAP. It may take the board a while to get back to you depending on how busy they are. It took about a month for them to approve my application to retake.

How is everyone studying? This is really stressing me out.

the last thing you need is to stress out! Take it easy mate; I took NAPLEX on 10/26/2010 and got my PASSING score in the mail 11/1/2010, but it was dated 10/29/2010 ... I took CPJE yesterday and waiting for the results! crossing my fingers!! ...

well I only studied the APHA book which, for me was MORE THAN ENOUGH ... it covers every aspect of both exams ... plus you need to remember what you learnt during your internship hours ... they came handy especially for CPJE! ... Weissman law book was really helpful ... it's easy and nice to read ...

On the exam ... Please read the full patient profile on the exam and never assume ... don't rush as you got enough time (I was done in 2 hours and 10 minutes!!!!)

Relax the night before the exam .. I had massage session and it helped a lot 🙂

Good luck and let me know if you need any further info!

Last Wednesday when I called the Board, its automatic voice answering system (updated on 11/1/11) said that re-take applications had been processed through 10/20/11. This morning when I called again, the system (updated on 11/08) said that the applications had been processed through (gasp) 10/20!

This makes me wonder if the Board gathers a batch of applications and send it to some agency to verify applicant's background, and now it is still waiting to get the results back from that agency. Or it just leaves re-take applications in a corner and doesn't work on them until it feels it likes to.

I want to send a fax to the Board complaining that I had asked the Board if I could send it my re-take application before my 90-day waiting period was up and that I never received a reply from it. Now it has already been more than 100 days since I last took CPJE and I am out of work because my employer won't give me hours until I get licensed. Or it is a bad idea because the Board may not care and/or it would get pissed and retaliate against me (since we are pretty much the Board's bitches).

Hey there

similar thing happened to me, I had to wait more than 5 months(May through October!!) to be cleared for NAPLEX and CPJE ... at first I followed their suggested channel of cummincation,i.e. emails and voice messages but it was a dead end! So I started calling everyday, asking to speak to the supervisor till I got through and it turned out they did a huge mistake!! Well bottom line, keep calling and ask to speak to a supervisor in a very calm and professional way! Sending a fax with a professional format would be a good idea!

Good luck with your CPJE retake ... I took it this Saturday and crossing my fingers as I guessed more than 15 questions!!

Regards

Thanks for sharing 👍

Who do you work for?? I have a similar situation to yours and I'm wondering if I'll lose my job. Not getting hours until licensed is pretty bad, but I'm thinking the worst will happen.

One of those giant chains that have two-lane drive thru and sell tobacco along with smoking cessation products...

I know how you feel. There is a lot of uncertainty given the saturation of pharmacists in my area and the potential replacement of my position by someone who has a license. Not to mention that my student loans will enter repayment soon.

But, hey, what can we do? If situation is out of our control, just do whatever we have to do and let things run their course.

I work for the same people. Hopefully they don't can me. I'm about to email my boss to let him know I failed.

I haven't taken the CPJE yet (thanks to the CA BOP fast notification of problems and quick resolutions), but I will be taking it in a couple weeks.

I have some good study material, charts, and law review summaries. If anyone is interested please feel free to message me.

Otherwise, good luck with your studying!

I just bought the RxPrep book to retake the CPJE. Lemme know if you want a copy. Message me.

to all the people asking me to add them to our "study group", there never was one to begin with. please stop contacting me.

as an update, i've taken my retake already and feel significantly better this time around.

PM me if you have questions. unfortunately, id rather reply to those who've been on the forums for a while (i.e. no trolls) or to those who i feel like replying to.

Hey Guys

I failed the CPJE the first time around. I am wanting to retake it in January because that is when my 90 days expire. Lets hope things work out the second time around. I still have to do paperwork with CA Board so as to become eligible to take the CPJE the second time around. The lesson I learnt is not to take law lightly because I had about 20 law questions. The point is to know all clinical and law stuff really well.

I just took mine a few days ago and I think I have to retake it. That was a horrible test. I wonder if someone could give me some suggestions/resources to study for the retake. (I cried after the test...).

Hello okoboji
I took mine last week and i did not feel good about it either. Its so hard to tell I guess many questions. I had so many law questions that I had no clue😕😕😕 how to answer. I also had some drug I've no info to study for.
I was unlucky I had no question from the sample booklet, not even one😡. I was really really upset after the test. What can I do but wait till get result but not till mid jan.
I had passnaplexnow books and weissman's for law. I'll post if I hear anything fr. the board.
Xmas to all

Does this affect people who take their tests after 12-20-2010 or before as well?

Hi,
I went through the same thing..I failed the cpje once (8/27/2010) and retook it again on (12/23/2010). I feel better about the exam the second time around. I read weissman's book twice and went over the rxprep book again. I also got morris cody law lectures. It is also good to see what drugs are refrigerated and for how long, what drugs to put in D5W or NS. Definitely know how to do IV calculations. Also, make sure to go over the sample cpje questions from the board of pharmacy website. Surprisingly, there were a lot of law questions the second time I took the cpje. I am waiting for my results for the second time taking the cpje.

Dear All.. I am taking the CPJE in 9 days (01/14/11) and am very nervous. Hope things go well. Did anyone get their scores yet? I know they are doing QA review

anyone knows where can I get rxprep??? IF I study rxprep and weissman would be enough to pass cpje ?? thx

So the original estimated release date was mid-Jan (they announced about the QA one week after I took my CPJE...1st sucka punch!). Now it's the end of Jan. (second sucka punch!). I'm so tired of getting mind-screwed by the CA BOP!!! Help me I don't want to play mind games NO MO!

thats so damn frustrating. how come they dont update us on a weekly basis? dont they realize people are waiting to start their careers. where did you find this link by the way because on pharmacy.ca.gov it still has the mid-jan one

I went to their website and searched for "cpje release" in their search box.

..got my result today....I passed!!! I sincerely wish everyone on this forum the best of luck!

...I studied AphA. I DIDN'T go over EVERY CHAPTER in AphA. I don't think it's practical to know everything in AphA. However, for each disease state I made tables on the drugs involved, class ADR/DDI and a few important points individual drug that were clearly pointed out in the readings.

...CPJE asked a few questions (non-law) that are not covered in AphA. I was able to answer some of these questions using my knowledge from working in the community setting. Honestly I think if you have a good base knowledge from studying AphA; these "random" question won't determine if you fail or pass.

...for law I used Weissman

...from my experience, I can go on and on trying to explain what I did and it won't help you feel good for this test. So just stick to a good study guide (AphA or RxPrep), read Weissman (or his powerpoint if you have it) study smart (DON'T try to cover everything and know nothing!).

Here is a link to a good article on the "CPJE experience". This is somewhat similar to mine; I walked out of the testing center feeling like crap (took it on the 13 and sat at table 13!🙂
