Hello everyone,

Firstly thank you for your interest in my post. I was wondering how bad it is when an applicant withdrew from a retake (initially C+, pre-req). Due to my family situations, I had to withdraw from one of my classes, and I withdrew from a course in which I initially received a C+. It is my only W,and my sGPA is 3.7 -- should I mention it on my application? Thank you in advance for your help!

Don't mention it. You're fine. One W is not gonna destroy you...

Thank you for your reply. I was aware that one W would not hurt, but I wasn't sure if it would still be the case if the W is from a retake... 🙁

No one will care. IF it comes up in an interview, which it won't, then just give a quick and reasonable explanation.

This is the kind of thing that won't sink your application if it's a one-time thing. But if it's a continuous problem then it suggests a lack of strong work ethic and responsibility.... and that negatively speaks volumes.

So if this is truly a one-time, extraneous situation, don't worry too much

Don't worry about an explanation unless you're specifically asked about it. There are plenty of legit reasons to withdraw from a class, even if it's a retake. Attempting to explain away a single W is kind of like branding "I'm neurotic!" all over your forehead.
