Hi everyone,

Happy Saturday. I graduated from college in 2015 and my GPA was abysmal. To this day, I still don't know what I was thinking. I saw that I continuously received poor grades and carried on as if nothing was happening; hindsight is in fact 20/20. I failed four classes in the 2013-2014 academic year. Is there anything I can do to get these grades removed, eight years later? My most recent coursework is 3.87 but with these classes (all BCPM), my GPA is so far below 3.0. I don't know what to do.

Some schools offer something (can’t remember the exact term) where they essentially wipe out grades that are older than a predetermined number of years. My undergrad offered it but the grades had to be 10+ years old.

However, it had zero bearing on things like graduating with honors, or med school apps because both of those calculated every single grade, even if the school had “erased” them. The only reason I could see in doing it was if a student was struggling to get financial aid after failing out and coming back. I just wrote a appeal letter and was approved, so I never utilized the option.

All that to say: before doing this, check your school’s policy on whether they will be true retroactive withdrawals replaced with W’s on your transcript, or if they will still count towards your cumulative GPA.

Check with the registrar. If you re-took the course then may be able to have it struck. My undergraduate studies had that policy. If there were circumstances surrounding your performance that have been changed (personal reasons, health etc).
