revealing ethnic identity

There are just so many things wrong with pathdr2b's post. I would type a counter argument, but I'm laughing too hard.

People, follow your own advice before you try to dish it out on others.

Ryo-Ohki,
If you think medical schools admitting a diverse class of students is funny then the joke I dare say is on you!!!! Health disparities IS a national problem in this country and I hope for your sake you don't get asked anything about it in your medical school interview. You obiviously have no clue that 1 of the ways to address this issue is to admit more minorities into medical school.

And yes, I can "follow my own advice" by addressing health disparities which is why I'm currently a cancer researcher and one of my 3 projects examines the differences in the molecular mechanisms of breast cancer in Blacks.

Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing or saying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results after the outcome has clearly been established.

In the spirit of keeping it real, the fact is that when you're something other than white, you always have to prove your worth. My mother is a perinatologist and there have been many times when she has gone into the room to see a patient and people automatically assume she's there to help them on the bedpan. There ARE qualified non-white people who are very capable of going to and finishing med school.

Oh, but let me guess: their stats are always much lower......
or wait was it because they applied to and went to one of those bottom of the barrel "black" med schools or perhaps it was the statistic I read that most malpractice cases involve those underqualified URM docs who stole the spot of a much more qualified non-URM.

You people know that if it were the other way around and most people admitted to med school were URM's you'd call it foul play and try everything in your power to equal the playing field. Oh but wait, someone already doesn't think it's fair that the "black" med schools admit far more URM's than non URM's.

A lot of you on here are just plain predjuiced. You automatically assume URM=un or underqualified. Because Lord knows no URM can match the likes of their white counterparts.

Like I've already said, most of the time when my mom enters a room to see a patient no one is expecting her to say hi i'm dr. __ and dr. so and so asked me to come see you about _____.
It's not until their baby is out of danger that she's proven her worth and can finally get a thank you doctor.

Some of you need to be careful. After all that black doc trying to teach you something in med school might be one of those URM's who stole the spot of someone white and more qualified ....better be careful that the information they teach you is actually correct. 😡

I agree...it's a touchy subject, isn't it?
