I emailed them requesting any change to my status and the woman who replied simply said that I was still in the possible interview pool, but that there were spots open on two days. I guess you just need to harass them until a spot opens and then you take it. That fact isn't made apparent in the possible interview pool letter, I guess you have to get lucky or hear about it on sdn.

So, basically there is no other way to get out of possible interview pool other than just basically getting lucky?

i called today and was told that they were picking april invites today. in the next couple of days, they would also be filling in march spots that didn't fill up.

i too am confused about how they go about picking people out of the pool. it seems the admin. counselors pick the students.

That is my current theory, yes.

BTW, I called several times today and just got sent into a voicemail. If we all call tomorrow they may be overwhelmed cause it sounds like no one was there today or something!

yeah, pretty much. i guess that's the way that you get an interview with them.

I was sent the "PIP" email and then a snail-mail interview invite about a week later....I did not call to check my status until after I interviewed, but that was a lot earlier in the season (November). Sounds like things are getting crazy over there. I know the day I called to schedule my interview I too got that voice mail message, and when I finally got through to someone she was SO tired, and explained to me that she was the only one in the office that day. I feel so bad for the people who have to work in an admissions office that is short-staffed.

I agree that it's not easy for them to answer all the questions, especially when they are short-staffed. RFU's office people are very nice whenever you call, and let you know where you stand..

i just called. very nice lady on the phone...april interviews were apparently filled yesterday as the previous post mentioned. i've been on hold since december...and the winner is....not me (yet). she said i've been set aside yet again for the next review session for may invites. hmmmf...good luck everyone.

Sorry, barcelona, I've been in PIP since October and, in a way, this is worse than hearing nothing at all from the school.

Last time I called and learned I was not chosen for the next round did it for me. I am not calling again. If I get invited, I will get it in the regular mail then.

I have no clue! I've just read many posts on SDN where people have said things like, they called to check on their status and happened to call at just the right time when an interview spot opened up or something, and got it. Seems entirely random to me. Or they were making it up.

as a student ar rfu I can dispell this rumor as complete bunk. The only time when this situation might occur is when ADCOM decides to send out an interview invitation to a student and that student just so happens to call before they are contacted about the invitation. Pestering the office will not improve your interview chances.

Maybe this is what happened to me, Mperor would know better. Here's a copy of the email I sent in and the email I got back:

I received a notification that I had been placed in the possible interview pool a couple of months ago and I was wondering if there was an change to my status in that pool. I know that your office is busy with these sort of requests, so I wanted to thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Your status is still “Possible Interview” at this time. We do have a couple spots that opened up in mid-February for February 15th and 17th. If you would be interested in coming on a bit of a short notice we would be happy to send you the invitation materials via email.

I am sorry to hear that, but dont lose hope. I hope u will have a better luck pretty soon 🙂 How many interview sessions they have per month? So, now it's only last turn left for May? Good luck

Not necessarily!! My MCAT scores stunk - it was a small miracle I got the "interview pool" status in the first place! Really!

It was probably the update letter I sent out. Since I sent out those update letters, I've gotten 5 rejection letters. In about 10 days!!! It must have reminded places to send me a rejection or something.

It was snail mail, dated Feb. 22nd.

I even called early this week & they just told me that I wasn't selected for the April pool but they have interviews into May. So they didn't give any indication on the phone.

I've been kicked outta the pool! Guess I'd better backstroke elsewhere...!!

I still have a few schools to hear from but reality is beginning to set in...
RFU, PA State and Vermont had me as "possible interviews", but that's about it. Going to have to re-take that MCAT and pray my scores finally get into realistic range. Then maybe they'll let me out of the pool and into the school! That water was COLD! Brrrr!

No word. Not a peep. I send cards, large tins of popcorn, chocolates... nothing! (JK).

After sending out my "update" letters and getting 4 rejections in 7-10 days, I'm kind of happy when I hear nothing for a day

It's a nice rejection letter. Nothing arrogant about "we had 250 billion applicants this year" that basically implies you are just a tiny peon that helps us collect big bucks from secondary application fees. I hate that kind.

They told me this when I called regarding March interviews...no dice. I called yesterday about April interviews....no dice again, still in PIP. Cruel and unusual punishment it is.
