For all of you at RFU, Im seriously considering applying EDP thier. I talked to Victor once and plan on talking to Mary Anne after the April MCAT. Any advice or approaches you think I can take? I am really in love with that school, maybe because I have been there so much to visit friends and family, but I definitely see my self as an RFU student. Any advice would be REALLLLLY appreciated. Thanks 🙂

I love RFU. I have many friends and family members who are thier or have graduated. Those who have graduated have done amazing. I for one am applying to RFU next year and definitely hope to see you all there next year 🙂

Worry not Will knows me and I know Will. At the recent career day we spoke, bottom line it is the person who makes a difference and not the school you come from, though it can help.

Wow... I go underground to study for midterms and I miss the thread explosion. I would have to agree with everything Dr Will and Ectopic has said (except for Dr. Will saying that there have been people in the AP program that have gotten over the 3.0 and not been accepted. I was told by numerous faculty and staff that their was only one such incidence of this where the student lacked some professionallism and ediquette that made them reject his admissions ap to CMS)


Now. Yes the program is new. Yes there is no garauntee of admissions regardless of GPA. But let me say this. I came into the AP program feeling like an underdog, but I wanted to show I could run with the big dogs. I gunned hard all year and I am sitting on a 3.9 right now, hoping to 4.0 out my last semester. I am by no means a smart guy (my undergrad GPA and MCAT can attest to that) but I decided this was my one shot and I threw down hard. And I have no doubt that if I came into this new program one year later, with no garauntee, and worked as hard as I did this year, I would have no problem with CMS admission.

That said, the people who came into this program this year just hoping for that 3.0 to get in, aren't here anymore. And if you think that you can go to ANY post bac program, half-ass it and get an acceptance, you're dead wrong. It was no different here under the old AP program and the same will apply to the new program.

Youre post bacs! You're the underdogs! Work hard here at RFU or anywhere else, and you'll be swimming with the med kids. Don't and you'll be eating cherios on your parents couch wondering what kind of job you can get with a biology degree. Your choice.

I have been accepted to RFU/CMS and will be attending this Fall and my question is what is work load like during the M1 year? How many and what classes M1 students take and how many hours of classroom lecture do the get per day? How much time per week does one need todedicate for study outside the classroom?

If you're at a top 25 medical school, why do you care about CMS? No body in this world cares about where you went to medical school, they seem to care more about where you trained. The school is putting out quality docs going into strong programs and that's all that matters. And as I said, if these people are getting their top choices, what does it matter?!

Do you feel threatened by those of us that attend this school? If not, who cares. As far as this PD...that's one out of how many programs, in how many specialties that have something negative to say. This person probably doesn't have their facts straight anyways, just like most people who were so worried about the probabtion incident from the year prior (it was a bunch of BS due to an old administration from years ago). Point is, for every negative comment I've heard, I've heard even more positives.

I want to be a doctor, and I've worked hard enough that I will get a residency in what I choose. I don't need a "big name" to be happy. If the program suits my needs and wants, that's all that matters to me. Too many people put too much importance on name alone. Work hard, it pays off.

And your friend with a 22 MCAT...the only thing that matters is how she faired in the match. If she worked hard and made up for any undergrad deficiencies, good for her. Then the program worked and found someone deserving that may have had a bad day.

So I assume you got into CMS and not the AP (or whatever it is now called). Here is the CMS schedulefor this yr.

As far as how much to study... this depends on how well you want to do (I recommend doing as well as possible) and how fast you learn. I didnt study as much as about 90% of my classmates.. Why? I learn quickly but honestly people knew some of the material more thoroughly than me. Once you get there you will figure it out. Some classes are more intense than others etc.. Maybe the other peeps can help.. Im an m4 and studying is like a 4 letter word to me!

Oh BTW I just found out yest i passed step 2 CS.. SWEEEEET 😀

Yes - I believe they must have gotten no applications with the program change and are looking for ways to fix that problem. They realize that without the old guarantee of admission they arent competitive with G-town, EVMS, BU and more. So they found a middle ground. I believe if you do well in the program there and a good interview you will get into RFU. They arent going to have a program for long if 0% are accepted to RFU each yr....

If you don't get into CMS after completing the post-bacc program, you could always try to get into SCPM! There is at least one former APer in our class. Podiatry is a great alternative to med school, and SCPM has some excellent faculty. Just a thought.
