For those who are curious, below is an email that was sent out to students today.....

Dear Friends,

The following is a brief description of the results of the Chicago Medical School Liaison Committee for Medical Education’s site visit May 2-4, 2005:

Due to the fact that this was a limited survey, there were 14 very specific areas that were examined; all identified at the time of the last survey in September 2003 which led to the School’s being put on probation. 9 related to areas in which we were in partial or substantial non-compliance, 4 related to areas that had been identified in transition and 1 was a new issue for which they requested a report (on our new Board).

Here’s the summary:

In the team’s opinion we are now in full compliance and/or fully resolved in all but two of the areas.

In those 2 areas, we are in transition but doing very well with significant progress in one of them and we are in transition in the other.

Nothing remains, in the team’s opinion, in the non-compliance column!!!!

VERY IMPORTANT!!! This is not the final decision or action by the LCME!!!!!! There is the MAJOR disclaimer by the team that they are only gathering facts and that there is no way to predict the LCME's actions. The LCME will meet and decide to accept or reject each of the recommendations by the survey team so the end result could be the same or very different. That stated, if the LCME allows the team’s findings to "stick," we should be just fine. They have very kindly offered to have us reviewed at the June meeting; previously they stated that they could not turn it over that quickly and we would have to wait until October. I find that to be very encouraging as well. So, we should have something "official" by the week of June 20th.

Needless to say, I am very guardedly and cautiously optimistic.

We’ll be sure to pass on more information as we get it!!

Sincerely,

Arthur J. Ross, III, M.D., M.B.A.
Vice President for Medical Affairs
Dean, Chicago Medical School

That's huge, as I am bound for the AP program at RFUMS (assuming they don't lose accredidation before that)

Please keep us updated! :) :)
