Ride for Rehab 2007

The Ride for Rehab 2007 is a major public awareness and fundraising campaign the Foundation launched at the AAPM&R 66th Annual Assembly in Hawaii. The Foundation is working cooperatively with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago to promote the event; all funds raised by the Foundation will be used for outcomes research. An avid cyclist, Academy President and RIC Director of the Spine and Sports Institute Dr. Joel Press will embark on a 3,700 mile cross-country bike ride – the “Ride for Rehab” - from San Francisco to Norfolk, VA on June 12, 2007. For 10 weeks, Dr. Press will cycle across the U.S. participating in local events, fundraisers and visiting rehabilitation centers. In addition, Dr. Press will play a major role in a national media outreach campaign, participating in print and broadcast interviews to raise awareness of the critical role physiatry and rehabilitation plays in restoring function and improving quality of life for patients. Academy members and corporate supporters are being asked to “sponsor” Dr. Press on a per-mile basis; click here for a donation/pledge form (PDF file) or call (312) 464-6646.

update: Dr. Press is cycling cross country for a total of 3861 miles to Boston MA. He is challenging all residents (and students) to donate 1 cent a mile, or $38.61. There is a national competition of all PM&R residency programs to see who can raise the most funds.

Dr. Press would also love to have ppl join him along the ride.

More detail to follow...

If you get a chance, Dr. Press would love to have people join him on the ride. It looks like a really fun route. He has one stretch where he will be hitting the football, baseball, soccer, and basketball hall of fames within a few days of each other (I think there were a couple other Hall of Fames I am forgetting about.

He also has Live-Strong type bracelets that you can use as a starting point for talking about the Ride for Rehab, and physiatry in general

Is he coming through Minnesota?

I don't think so. In the last copy of the itinerary he gave me, he is traveling as follows:

San Fran, CA --> Nevada --> Utah --> Colorado --> Kansas --> Missouri --> Illinois --> Indiana --> Ohio --> Pennsylvania --> New York --> Massachusetts

He starts in early June, and finishes in mid-August
