Hey guys, I just joined the Robotics Club/Team here at my school because I'm really into robotics, but I'm wondering if this would negatively affect my pharmacy school application. It seems there are two ways the admissions people could view it:

(1) Diversity is a good thing. Also, team skills and leadership abilities were probably developed through this program. He's a good candidate.

(2) This kid is confused about what he wants to do and obviously isn't 100% passionate about pharmacy. He should have gone into engineering.

What do you all think would be the case?

I don't see how being in the robotics club could count against you. No, it isn't specifically geared towards pharmacy, but its shows many other things. One, that you are, like you said, diverse in your interests. Two, like any extracurriculars, it shows that you can commit yourself to more than one thing, as long as you keep good grades. However, try to be sure to have pharmacy experience when it comes time for you to apply to the schools of your choice, whether it be as a tech, volunteer work, or shadowing.

Keep in mind though, robotics concerns a great amount of detail, and involves being very detail oriented, not unlike pharmacy. Try to focus on the similarities between the two. Sciences, problem solving, team work, communication skills...I think you might find that there are more than one many think!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply! You definitely raised some good points!

I'm in the process of becoming a pharmacy tech... it sure is hard to find a place willing to hire around here though 😡.
