It was pretty awesome, and I love Portland. And why assume I'm stealing a spot from you. 🙂

And adding that my list above is based on geographic preferences and general program fit. No badness is implied about any of the programs I put lower on the list.

thats already 2 very highly qualified applicants who have oregon #1.....sounds like it is going to be a banner match year for them.

One person who goes to the same school as my wife is also ranking them #1. Don't mean to scare anyone.

We kind of wished we accepted OHSU's interview offer. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

I'll also contribute after tomorrow night's deadline. It's not just because I'm fearful of anonymity (I am, but just a little), but things still might be in flux over the next 24 hours. I don't see many of my programs on the lists you guys have posted thus far.

Why does Oregon have to be so awesome 🙁 Oh well, I guess I'll be pretty happy at my other choices too. 😛

For someone who didn't apply there, what is so great about Oregon is 2 sentences or less?

ditto, Im not sure I get it either......I mean I am *not* a candidate who would have been competitive there, but even if I were it's not a program I would have applied to......

For me, Portland is just an all around great location. I lived there before and loved it. Big but not huge. Nice people. Great outdoor activities and close to the ocean and the mountains. And I have family there, so that's another plus. As for the program, the PD seems really nice and sincere. They have a strong focus on community psychiatry, and their curriculum the 3rd and 4th years is really flexible. Residents seemed content and had a life outside of work. The size also feels like a good size for me, and again, everyone just seemed really nice.

And that was more than 2 sentences.

Ditto 🙂 well, not the family part for me. The only reservation I have about it is Portland's current job market for my spouse. And that its nowhere near any of my family/friends. Other than those two things, Im a fan...

As the other two mentioned, Portland is just great. It's very clean, well-planned, with a very useable and cheap public transportation network. It's very scenic with a wide river and tall mountains. The OHSU campus on Marquam Hill offers a spectacular view of the area. It's difficult to be in a bad mood when your medical campus feels like it's a ski resort in the mountains, complete with gondola tram. The program seems extremely balanced, both in pharm/therapy and in prestige/workload. It's just awesome all-around. I have no family there, but Portland is a place I could see myself settling down in.

I just chatted with a person I met on the interview trail, she too is ranking OHSU #1. This is turning into a real cluster**** 😛

well I guess I will join the crowd and post mine(note that Im still trying to sort out the order on 4-7....will be done by tommorrow afternoon obviously!):

1) East Carolina- I knew this would be my #1 going into it.
2) Wake Forest
3) South Alabama
4) West Virginia-Morgantown
5) West Virginia-Charleston
6) UAB
7) Scott and White

again, this order in the 4-7 range may completely flip around...I have a lot of conflicting thoughts about how to rank these programs......

8) Universtity of Tennessee-Memphis
9) LSU-New orleans
10) Meharry
11) Kansas(wichita)
12) Wright State
13) John Peter Smith(north texas program)
14) Kansas(kansas city)

any last minute advice for 4-7?

Here's mine! I can't wait to find out where I'm going!
I want to end up in Boston or New York.

1. Harvard Longwood
2. Columbia
3. Harvard South Shore
4. NYU
5. John Hopkins
6. Dartmouth
7. Brown

Portland is an amazing city! If we ever live in Oregon again it would be there.

But don't worry MS, OHSU isn't everyone's first choice! 😀 I'll post my list tomorrow...

1. MGH/McLean
2. Longwood
3. Hopkins
4. Maryland
5. GWU
6. U Penn

I really struggled with my top 2...I loved both so much and would be thrilled to be at either. 3 and 4 were a somewhat last minute change that I feel very good about.

🙂

Not really surprised at your list... except that UC wasn't dead last. Haha. At any rate, I'd be very surprised if you didn't end up on the west coast. No more Skyline Chili for you.

I'll add mine...

1. NYU
2. Colulmbia
3. Cornell
4. U Washington
5. Harvard Cambridge
6. UCSF
7. MGH/McLean
8. Stanford

Weirder things have happened. 😛 I think it's a very competitive year, if I have somewhere to train I will count myself fortunate.

Was very uncertain right down to the wire, still uncertain....

But if I match at my #1 rank it will be University of Washington psychiatry.

If not that then I will be an internist.

Now that's devotion! UW or bust!

Interesting. I can see that being the program that would appeal to someone conflicted by the IM/Psych decision, though. And they take lots of 2nd year transfers, so even if you go IM, you could still switch.

I have been curious to see what you'd decide between these two programs. I've got to say I'm not surprised based on what you said earlier. And I'm also betting you'll get out of the midwest.

The difference in how I liked these two programmes was miniscule, it could've gone either way. I'd be ecstatic at either. However, given the competitiveness of OHSU I expect that if I don't match at my #1 it will "skip" directly to #3 or below. I'm hoping I don't go lower than #8, and get to stay in Pacific Time Zone 😛

1. MUSC
2. UNM
3. WPIC
4. Arizona
5. Duke
6. Maryland/SP
7. Cincinnati
8. Univ Illinois
9. Lutheran General

Good luck everyone! :luck: Only a few weeks of anxiety left...

Since everyone is doing it:
1. UTMB Integrated Child program
2. UTSW-Dallas
3. UTMB-normal track
4. Scott & White
5. Arkansas
6. Palmetto
7. Vanderbilt
8. UT-Houston
9. Duke
10. UTSW-Austin

UTMB and UTSW could go either way. I love both programs, and I really hope to see UTMB or UTSW on match day. Still, I'd be very content with anywhere on my rank list.

Did not rank:
Emory
UTSA

UTMB was the most difficult one for us on our rank list. She loved the people there and the ability to help them rebuild the program (also having the combo adult/child track was a huge advantage). The biggest issue was trying to work out an adequate living situation with all the time being spent at St. Joe's in Houston the first year and then having most of the rest of the time in Galveston.

Best of luck to you!

Here's mine!
1. Cincinnati
2. Mt Sinai
3. UIC
4. Northwestern
5. NYP-Cornell
6. LIJ

Best of luck to yall too! I hope you and your wife get yall's first choice, but I'd love to have yall in my class if not. Yall are great people.

1. Stanford

2-5 (in alphabetical order)
Harvard Longwood, Mayo, UCSF, UW-Seattle

I loved😍 all of these programs and would be so happy to match at any of them.
The actual order in the list came down to where my spouse could most likely find employment.

Now that the magical hour has passed (and apparently, if we all have our wishes come true a few of us are about to become colleagues):

It's great. It's about an hour drive and the hospital is fantastic in my opinion. St. Joe's is so friendly, maybe more so than UTMB which is saying a lot, but UTMB has been feeling the strain so I think it makes a difference.

St. Joe's provides the big city training while the remainder of the residency seems to provide the outpt clinic training in a laid back environment. Dr. Levine there is great IMO, send her an email and she gets back to you fast if even from a Blackberry. Fantastic.

Oh BTW, tell your "wife" good luck!

I'm surprised people ranking UTMB so highly but good for them.
