people who got interview with earlier possible pool e-mail, how long did it take after you got the e-mail.

I got the email, my hair stood on end and maybe in the next day or so I got the white envelope in the mail. I applied before the end of August and I believe they had all my letters of rec. before July...maybe that is why.

have you called the office or emailed them to ask? they do continually review their apps and GOOD NEWS! they are implementing a wait list this year (most likely per the admissions office staff) as they have not had one in the past if you can believe that! If spots opened they used to pull everyone's files again and mull them all over once more, incredible! 😱

i'm pretty sure they have my LORs.
so you think i should call them to see whether the app is complete.

i asked the person on the phone and they said it may be good to send LOI.

thanx in advance for response.

See, this is where things get really sticky. I have read so many conflicting opinions about LOI's that my head is still spinning! If you look up, I believe it was one of Underdog's posts he said he was told to send one and then told not to...it's getting so you don't know what to think anymore! You could call, RFUMS does not have a set day (Loyola and UIC only check status on Thursdays) so it should not be too big of an issue...define "a while ago".... when did you get the possible interview pool (PIP) email? I felt bad, so I had to check the exact dates for you guys...my PIP on 9/28 and my interview invite is postmarked 10/7, awwwwhh.... that’s my birthday, I just realized that! Sorry, I digress...does that help? Maybe you just need to try to keep the multiform PVC's at bay a few days more and viola! In your mailbox will be what you most desire!

well, it is still fairly early, really. the interview season as they put it "The Chicago Medical School interview season runs from October, 2005 – May, 2006." so, at this point i think what is bogging them down is all the august mcaters who just got their scores in october. i would say if you were that inclined then call. where are you from? do you have good scores/grades?

and the PVC thing was just a little medical humor

oh grades, cats and extra stuff is cool.

NO I DON'T WANNA WAIT, I WANT IT ASAP. i got reason.
i'm not from texas.
i called them before they just said yeah you in da pool, i know that though.

what should i tell 'em when i call.

thanks timmy
you are really helping.

ask them how deep the pool is? are you in the deep end or the shallow end? is it a kiddie pool?

no, seriously, i guess i would just say you were wondering when you might expect to hear something. they are pretty nice there. there was only one day when i called that the lady on the other end of the phone sounded as if she wanted to scream - apparently she was the only one in the office that day so she was a little stressed out, understandable.

i am glad i can be of help 😛

this was posted in the "Chicagomed update" thread....

"ok, so heres the deal. i just called the admissions office (again), and they said that everyone in the interview pool has an opportunity to get an invite. and if you call at the same time that someone had cancelled/postponed their interview, they will give u the person's interview spot. so even though i didnt officially receive an invite through snailmail, i was serendipitious enough to call at the same time someone cancelled 12.01 interview, and i recieved an interview on that date

so basically, call the office everyday, u never know when someone might cancel/postpone their interview time, good luck"

Hey Timmy, Q for you:

I called Rosalind 2 days ago to "check my status" and was informed that I was recieving an interview invite and should expect a letter from them within the next couple of weeks. She said that after I had my letter I could call and schedule an interview day. So, based on your post, I am wondering if I should call back and ask about scheduling an interview sooner (preperably in December sometime) if someone cancelled. But I don't want to sound like the annoying pre-med (that maybe I am...). So, what exactly do you say to them when you call? Would it be appropriate to say something like: "I recently called and discovered that I have been granted an interview and was wondering if I could schedule the interview now... I would like to interview in December if someone has recently cancelled..."??

I just interviewed at Rosalind Franklin and they said that you can call on 12-12 in the afternoon to see if you got accepted, rejected, or waitlisted. I can't believe that it was snowing when I was there.

its snowing already?? crap, i dont have snow attire.

well, i did not write that originally, i found that in the "chicagomed update" thread, but i would say since you already have an interview letter coming i would just wait, it could not take that long to get to you. but that is just me. in other news, i just called loyola and i am on hold 🙁 CMS is the only interview i have had so far, and the only school that i have heard a response from, period! no rejections yet, so i guess that is good, but i did not apply to >20 schools though, like most people did. anyone else out there apply to around 10 or so?

Timmy, I applied to 14 schools. One interview, one scheduled. You may want to join in on the "Not enough interviews to = confidence in acceptance" thread. We're a rockin' group.

I couldn't find this in SDN's search, so I had to ask here:

Is the supplemental app (doc/pdf) not working online? It seems like its not available. Does anyone know about this? Thanks!

I applied to 9.... I guess I still had a bit of a big fish in a little pond thing going on.... I wish I had applied to a ton more, but now its too late! D**n not finding SDN sooner! Then I would have been totally freaked out that I wouldn't get in, but I would have applied to a lot more schools. 😳

Hi

Since someone mentioned that it's snowing up there... and the fact that i've lived all my life in the south, is a regular interview suit enough to keep me warm during the interview and tour? my interview is during the frirst week of december.

Thanks!

I don't know how extensive the tour is, since they won't offer me an interview! BUT Chicago is cold. And it is humid cold--the type of cold that gets under your clothes and stays with you all day. You will need a coat.

I say go to goodwill or the salvation army (or if you're feeling fancy nordstrom's or just somewhere on the web) and get some gloves and a scarf, too. You want to give a good handshake and you won't do that when you're all clawed-out and shizz.

The tour is completely indoors (at least it was when I went a couple weeks ago). You should be fine for the tour and interview. However, it's likely to be somewhere in the 20's - 30's for the highs that time of year. From http://wgntv.trb.com/news/weather/wgntv-weatherwords-chicago,0,475346.story?coll=wgntv-weather-4

"Chicago's zero temperatures in December: Zero degrees or lower has occurred in 52 percent of Chicago Decembers since 1871."

Another site with average temps for Chicago: http://www.usatoday.com/weather/resources/askjack/2003-11-07-answers-cold-days_x.htm

You'll definitely need a decently warm coat and gloves/scarf to walk from the parking lot to the building--a trenchcoat probably won't be enough, especially if you're not used to the cold and wind. See if you can borrow a wool coat from someone, or you can get them at thrift stores or eBay if you're short on cash. They have a room where you can put your coat/bag when you get there, so you won't have to carry it around. If you get there a little bit early, you can take off the coat and stash it in the room before anyone sees it if you're unable to get a nice-looking coat.

Good luck! :luck:

Thanks for the info!

i guess i need to go buy everything this weekend - gloves, scarf, coat... i usually wear cowboy boots and those get ruined in wet weather so i'll probably need new boots. man this interview will be expensive, but interesting. it's making me cold just thinking about it. i'm excited!

I just withdrew from my interview.................so..........there's one spot open for all those wanting an interview 🙂

bah for some reason, they're saying that they're still waiting for people to respond to the dec interviews so they can't offer them to others on the pool list.

HEY!
I'm applying from cnd, and i haven't even sent in my secondaries! (i've been busy w/cnd med school applications and school stuff), in any case i was wondering if its too late to apply.

it seems like everyone is getting in already and i haven't applied... gah .. i'm stressed... any adivice would be greatly appreciated.

I really want to go to rosalind franklin... ..sigh

best of luck to everyone!
Tazzzzzzzzz

I'm also in the limbo that is RF "possible interview pool." The email informing me of this was kind enough to include the statistic that something like 30% (ooooo, ahhhhh) of folks in this pool get interviews. What does this mean? Do they rank us? Pick out people at random? Re-review our files? I suppose I should be grateful that I haven't been flat out rejected...

Get that app in pronto! It is pretty late for secondaries, but still early in the interview process. However, if you have good enough stats, they will probably review your app before mine!!

I am going to call and see if I am even in the interview pool. If I am not, I am dissing Rosalind like Watson and Crick!

To be fair, didn't they diss her by feigning romantic interest - only to use her for her mighty brain? I don't know. Maybe I made all that up because I'm avoiding other work.

Yes, Rosalind and I have very similar stories....

That's kinky.

Well, I just called and I wasn't selected for the interview pool. My first rejection. Funny, I feel okay. At least I know.

Aaaargh! Well, you do have that fresh Iowa acceptance. I'm sure you've made lots of copies and stapled them together to fashion a blanket of sorts. Just watch out, those staple edges hurt when they catch.

Yes, although it isn't as fresh anymore seeing as how I have cried on it, split beer on it and hugged it after taking a 10 mile run. But the sentiment is still well-takes. Still, it would have been mnice to get an itnerview even closer to home. Iowa City = 3.5 hours, any chicago school = 20 minutes.

This just shows how random this process is. You were accepted at OHIO (?) but you didn't get an invite from Rosalind?
I've had one interview and everyone else forgot about me. I am placed in the competitive pool from the one interview btw.

I was hoping I would be getting an invite from others soon. I was placed in Rosalind's possible interview pool on Nov. 11th.

Still hoping.
