rosalind franklin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well it may have been a little harsh, but Rosalind Franklin is very low tier med school together with Drexel.

I really do not know why this school has not done something thru the years to improve their image. My parents tell me that 25 years ago it was known as Chicago Med and that it had an outrageous high tuition and a lousy reputation. I believe that they just got off probation two years ago because they were relying too much on tuition for their income. Also note that the name has changed a couple of times as well...( trying to get private money? )

In any case, if it is accredited and one gets in... you can always do better at a more reputable residency which is what really counts!!

Are you saying that Drexel is a low tier med school as well?? If so, why do you think that?

Dude, I did not make any premature accusations and what I stated are FACTS.
Chicago Med School (now known as RFU) had one of the highest med schools tuitions in the country 25 years ago, it was placed on probation just a couple of years ago and it is considered one of the low tier med schools. Just check the admissions statistics MCAT and GPA wise.

I did not say anything about their match nor their board scores which are apparently very good. I just commented that it is weird that for so many years the school continues to have the same poor reputation at a national level (A FACT )

Sorry to revisit this, but do not tell me that my comments were innacurate.

In glancing at your old posts, it appears you're a Northwestern med student. Luckily, it doesn't matter in the slightest what you personally think of CMS or its students, it matters what CMS students and residency program directors think of us. There's enough overwhelming evidence that CMS students are not seen as subpar by even top institutions. In fact, in the past few years it looks like there are some places that have taken us repeatedly in different fields:
Stanford: x2 plastic surgery matches, ophtho, ortho, x2 anesthesia, x3 neuro, x3 peds, x5 PM&R, psych.
USC: x2 ortho, neurosurg, x2 gensurg, ENT, x9 anesthesia, x8 EM, neuro, x7 OB-GYN, x4 peds, x2 psych, x5 radiology
Mayo: ophtho, x2 gensurg, ENT, x2 anesthesia, x2 neuro
UChicago: ophtho, ENT, x2 anesthesia, EM, neuro, x2 peds, x6 PM&R, psych.

Just to name a few prominent ones.

So you can say what you want, but I'm confident about my education and proud of my school. I'm not posting this to get into some sort of pissing contest, I'm just pointing out to premeds who may not know the difference between random posters perpetuating the "RFUMS has a bad rep" rumor and actual opinion of our school in people who matter and reinforce that we're doing just fine. Will our school name carry us very far? No, I doubt that. Will our accomplishments? You bet. I know Northwestern (and most all of the Chicago area schools) do very well in the match too and I'm glad.

If you can't be civil, at least be respectful. If you can't be respectful, don't fault us for ignoring you.

Are they still giving out interview invites?

So you cane into a thread called "Rosalind Franklin" (not "rosalind franklin vs full ride to Harvard vs MD/Phd at Yale") And started spewing slander towards a school that obviously everyone in the thread is excited about...

What's your deal man?

And before you fall back on your whole "it's just the facts" cop out, make no mistake that what you said is slander(making assumptions on why the school changed names, posting hearsay from what your parents told you). It is rather obvious that your negative posts serve no greater purpose other than to make yourself feel better about your lot in life, because you are doing nothing to benefit the SDN community.

So what exactly are you so insecure about that compelled you to do this?

They're still giving out interview invites. I just got one today for late April or early May!

Don't lose hope guys. I know plenty of people who interviewed late in the season (april/may) and got in.

That's great to know since I am very excited for my interview on 4/9. Is the interview as relaxed as the SDN feedback suggests?

yes its very relaxed. dont let that fool you though, prepare the same.

I would say on the aggregate the interviews are pretty relaxed. There are a few hardasses out interviewing though so don't completely blow off your preparation.

Hello!

Congrats to all who have been accepted, and good luck to everyone who will be interviewing at RFU. I interviewed at RFU at the end of October and I haven't heard anything back yet! I've sent 2 letters of continued interest since then and now I have no idea what to do. Is it bad news if I wasn't accepted after the adcom meeting following my interview? Should I just forget about RFU? The waiting is making me crazy! 😕

I'm with you except mine was at the beginning of october.. I was really hoping to hear but I'm not sure if it's hopeless now or not.. anybody have any ideas?

I don't know if anyone really has an answer for us, unfortunately. It seems if you aren't accepted in the first committee meeting after your interview, you are, in a sense, waitlisted. I think this "waitlist" is unranked, so acceptances will come unannounced. I'm not really sure when us earlier interviewees will begin to hear some news, but most likely it will be in April or May when they stop their interviews for the 2008 season.

If it makes you guys feel any better, my application was complete in mid-September, and I haven't heard back yet. I figured that pretty much every school would have at least wrapped up interview invitations by now, if not the actual interviews. But hey, limbo>rejection, as far as I'm concerned.

2008 match list is out. I can't get it in the right format but it is hot. Im sure someone will post it soon

Hey guys. For all of those still hoping for an interview, all is not lost. I got an invite on Tuesday, and I had the choice of interviewing on April 16th, 21st, or 23rd. I will be withdrawing my application, so that's another spot open. Good luck to all of you!

Just to let you guys know, I just declined my acceptance to RFU today. Hope one of you qualified applicants get it! :luck:

Does anyone know if the $100 dollar check to hold you spot is refundable?

By what date?

Also, how do they get you your money back...via check in the mail?

Thanks. Another spot will be open soon.

Anyone get in since March 15th? These secret adcom meetings are very disconcerting....

looking at the acceptance trends for this year, most of the acceptance letters are sent out this week and received early in the second week of most months. we probably just have to keep waiting.

Has anyone heard anything about acceptances so far for April?

I just got an interview invite today for either late April or early May. By the sound of this thread, it sounds like there are haven't been a lot of acceptances given out yet. Anyone know more about chances of getting in with a late interview, I would like to hear more about it.

If you got an interview, then you have a equal shot at acceptance. I interviewed late last year, and got in straight out of the bag w/o waitlist.

Now I am happy to almost be moving on to my M2 year here.

congratulations! was the invite via email? and do you mind telling us your stats? thanks.

Thanks! Yes the invite was by email. They gave me a choice of 4 different dates, with the latest being on May 9th. I have a 29N, 3.95 BCPM, 3.7 AO, decent extracurriculars. Apparently I really have to improve on interviewing- My interviews this year have resulted in two rejections and a high priority waitlist. Good Luck!

guys/gals, acceptances have been sent for april. probably should have received one by now if you got one, so congrats to those that did!

Do you know when they were sent (by the postmark for example)?

for those of you still waiting to hear back, don't lose hope! i interviewed in early october and received an unexpected acceptance letter in the mail just last week. I didn't send any updates or letters because I had just given up and was just expecting to receive a rejection after the long wait.

good luck!

I know it's kind of "out of no where" but can someone tell me what is the fastest and most effective way to withdraw an acceptance. I will greatly appreciate it.

So now will there not be any acceptance news until May? Or does the committee meet more often now?

Can a student from CMS answer this question; do the 2 pathology professors (Schneider and Santos??) teach there still?

I didnt actually apply to RFU but for what its worth, I know a lot of excellent doctors who went to school there (my orthopedic surgeon went there then to residency at UT Southwestern).

Can a student from CMS answer this question; do the 2 pathology professors (Schneider and Santos??) teach there still?

Oh yeah. Schneider and Szanto. Well-loved and win teaching awards every year. They're awesome.

Are they both pathology professors or is one a biochem professor?

Are they both pathology professors or is one a biochem professor?

glucksman is the biochem professor that co-wrote the board review book.

Any word out there from the admissions committee? Should we just be waiting until May? Sigh.......

Are they both pathology professors or is one a biochem professor?

they're both pathology professors. dr. schneider is the course director. they are both retired pathologists.

I haven't been paying attention to this thread, but if there are already people out there counting their spots on the waitlist- count yourself one better. 99.9% chance that I'll be withdrawing my acceptance once I get the financial aid package from another school (which should be within the week).

well, it's almost May. Does anyone know how the process works for this month? Are there the normal acceptances at the beginning of the month and more given out when seats open up after May 15th? Thanks for any insight.
