So just got my spin results (yay!) and did pretty well!

I am looking to do an extra rotation during one of my off cycles. I have to pick from the leftover list, so my choices are limited. I really wanted emergency med and onco rotations, but I didn't get them and neither are available during my off cycle either.

My question - my options are (from the list) anticoagulation, nuclear, critical care, pediatrics, and pain management (there are others, but these are the ones I am interested in). Are there any advantages in taking one over the other? I know it should be based on what I like first, but I'm kinda neutral. Just looking for outside persepective.

Thanks in advance.

Enjoy your off cycles in my opinion...

If I were you I would pick the topic based on how interested I am in it as well as which would help brush up on your weaknesses in terms of areas of knowledge.

The extent to which the rotation will benefit you depends upon the preceptor, but as long as you put in the time/effort and get a good recommendation from him/her, you should be alright.

haha...yea i would but i really want to be competitive for a residency and good grades alone don't really cut it anymore...

also, the off cycle in question is right after winter break, so if i kept it off i would have SEVEN weeks off haha. Without cash for a serious vactation, I don't know what I'd do for 7 weeks...

Residency interviews

but those are more in Feb than Jan.

I took my month off in Feb for that reason.

I may have miss read that as 7 weeks off after winter break.

depends on what your other rotations are in. Do you want to double up in an area to increase strength,(peds + ob/gyn) or do you want to avoid duplication to show diversity? (psych + anti-coag)
