I am a graduate entry programme student at RCSI, and I'm posting this information because I would have liked to known this stuff in advance and maybe it'll be helpful to someone else.
You are sent all over the country on rotation in five blocks during Senior Cycle I- 3rd year for GEPs, 4th year for non-GEPs. This academic year runs from late September to late May, including exams at the end. You can be placed at any of the following locations- not everyone goes to the same place at the same time but you're always with your travel buddy if you picked one, and in some locations there can be as few as four students, or less for the GP rotation. All rotations last for six weeks, not including weekends, unless indicated by a slash. I found out where I was placed for the year about a month before the year started- you do not get to choose, it is random, although I hear you can swap with someone.

Clinical Medicine aka Med/Surg: Cavan, Mullingar, Kilkenny, Loughlinstown.
Psych: St. Ita's, Monaghan, Kilkenny, Newcastle, Cluain Mhuire, Beaumont/St. Brendan's, Waterford, St. Vincent's, Connolly.
GP: Everywhere.
Pediatrics: Everyone goes to Temple St./Crumlin, but only 1/4 of the entire class is there at any given time.
Obstetrics: Rotunda/Kilkenny, Coombe/Waterford, Drogheda.

Just a small addition, RCSI arranges housing and pays for it out of your tuition (small comfort) when you're sent to places outside of Dublin. Housing is mostly in B&Bs but there are some apartments.

I've enjoyed it as you get to see the country more than otherwise. The biggest pain is packing-up and cooking while you're out there.

And that list is far from comprehensive with additional Med/Surg spots in Dublin and some rotations combining Dublin and peripheral placements within a single subject block.

Thanks to the both of you for this info. Its not so bad if they atleast pay for the accomodation although I am a bit worried because I care for an elderly relative that I live with. Sure, I'll see if they'll help me out there when the time arrives
Thanks again for what is good info and warning

I have a question, if someone could answer please, I would appreciate it.

1.Can you please tell me what the transition is like, from college to Beaumont during IC1?
2. I understand that in IC3 you are sent to various hospitals, can you please tell me what the duration of this is? And what else to expect in Beaumont and IC3?
3. Is living in Beaumont advised? Or is staying in the city during 3rd/4th year better?

Thanks so much.

One of the 5-year people will have to answer that for you. All I can tell you is that you spend a fair amount of time in Beaumont in IC3 and some students find it easier to move somewhere close by. Others certainly manage to live in the city center without too many problems.
