Rotation Spin RESULTS!!!!

We just got our results today...

I got everything I wanted except for nuclear pharmacy and my "desired" schedule of blocks - but all of the blocks are there (aside from nuc).

(2) different hospitals, IHS, VA, Psych, and pain.

I can almost taste the final year now - did anyone else get their results back today?

We'll get ours in April. I know a lot about my picks and if all turns out well with the Spin, it will be a great year. 🙂
 
I got mine back and I can't say that I am happy with it, but what can you do?

good luck, i think i got my results in april sometime, lets hope you don't get any rotations at princeton medical center, i hear horror stories from the students there.

i mean its one thing to learn on a difficult/challenging clinical rotation, but i hear that some of the faculty there try to humiliate the students... that never sat well with me

Got mine back about a week ago. It was just a draft, we can ask for changes to the slots we don't like (but won't always get it).

What's everyone's rotation requirements? OSU requires:
(1) 3 months of hospital (1 or 2 month internal med, plus 1 or 2 months specialty. 2 of the 3 months must be at a single site).
(2) 3 months of retail/ambulatory/out patient clinic (2 months must be at a single site)
(3) 3 months of electives, 1 of which must be patient care.

I got all the OSU MC slots I wanted (1 mo internal med, 1 mo ER, 1 mo Oncology), and 1 of my electives (Pfizer). But didn't get the FDA elective, and made me do 2 months community at Kroger (which wasn't even on my list) plus an anti-coag clinic with the professor everybody hates! So I submitted requests to switched Kroger to Target, and anti-coag + 1 unknown site to VA hospital. If I can get 2 of those changes then I'll be pretty happy with getting 6 out of 9. :xf:
 
I'm working to change some of my rotations, but it's not looking too great. We have 5 require rotations and 3 electives.

I got Internal med, ambulatory care, institutional, ID, Pfizer. I got an independent pharmacy with a preceptor that everybody hates. So I'm trying to switch that to CVS. Currently still working to get my other 2 rotations change. I'm looking at Psych and maybe Administrative.

Wow... April is definitely late in the game - It would be kind of stressful to setup places to live on such a short notice. Congrats on setting up most of yours up.

we have (8) 6-week rotations - one of which is off if we so choose.

Required:
(1) hospital rotation
(1) Adult internal medicine
(1) Amb care
(1) advanced community

Quasi-requirement:
(1) of your (3) electives must be a patient-care elective, the other (2) can be non-patient-care...

I haven't a clue if any of my preceptors are good or not - maybe I should find that part out 😕 😀
 
there are 9 5-week cycles throughout the year and we have to do 7 of them. 2 of those must be with full time RU faculty members

1 community
1 hospital
1 ambulatory care
1 internal medicine
1 acute care
1 clinical
1 elective

i didn't know that about princeton - ouch. i actually put pfeiffer (oncology) as a preferences b/c I hear that if she likes you, she writes amazing recommendation letters for residencies. that's my big goal now - getting matched!

We start rotations at the very end of June.

We have 4 core and 3 elective rotations. The core rotations are: institutional, community, ambulatory care, and acute care. Electives can be any combination of the core rotations, if there are still slots available, or rotations that are exclusively designated as electives, like academia, home infusion, compounding, nuclear, and LTC.

Supposedly our rotations are supposed to last 6 weeks each, but it looks more like 5 weeks from the dates we were given. I'm cool with that! 😎

Oh cardinal... what we could have been 🙁 hahaha - Ya know - I am going to look into shadowing opportunities. I am looking seriously at residency right now - but I have a strong interest in nuclear pharmacy - which is definitely a different path than residency - So I have to get it ironed out pretty quickly. Know any great places to shadow in Orlando or Tampa Florida???

I c... Our school kicks off rotations in mid May, so we get about a month and a half to lock on housing - April and starting in June gives you a lot more breathing room.

One of the unspoken issues with going to a new school is that a lot of the rotation opportunities are not yet setup. Looking at all of your options for electives creates just a small pang of jealously... 😳

I'm happy with what I got, but some of the options you guys have are pretty awesome.

Actualllllllly...I know the pharmacy manager at the Covidien pharmacy in Orlando. Let me see if I can get you his contact info. He's an awesome guy; I'm fairly certain he'd be happy to show you around.

I'd say you're more than welcome to come shadow me, but I have a feeling that wouldn't be too easy with your schedule.

I know exactly where you are in terms of debating residency vs. nuclear though; I was in the same boat and didn't make my decision until Mid-Year of my 4th year. And I've said this before too; I often wonder where/what I'd be doing had I gone down the other path, but I'm really thrilled with where nuclear has taken me!

It was pretty funny whenever they announced to our class that rotations would be starting in June. Everyone was like, "June??? Why are they starting in June?", because the current P4's started after the July 4th weekend. 🙁 So.... We're starting about a week early, and we don't have the option of selecting an "off" rotation like other schools. It's just straight through, baby (minus a few weeks around Christmas).

At least I'll get to go to the beach during May and June. 🙂

It would take decades, if not centuries, to pull that off.

My school is actually using the spin to set up our P3 IPPE rotations, which could be very interesting. I'm looking forward to getting mine in April.
 
Hmmm... I suppose I don't know what "spin" is when choosing rotations. We got a list of our sites last week. I'm overall pretty happy, although I might try to change one of mine from advanced community (i.e. management) to a 2nd amb care or ID rotation (hopefully at the VA).

My rotations are:

General Medicine (at a clinic that trains medical residents)
Ambulatory Care (at a low-cost/free clinic - lots of DM pts)
Community Pharmacy (I could have opted out but I wanted to try working for another chain)
Compounding
Hospital (VA)
Advanced Community
Pediatrics (yay!)

I've heard good things about almost all of my preceptors, but it's going to be a tough year, especially the first 2 rotations. Only 5 more weeks of class!

Yeah - that assumes that they all actually make. At my school, the official list of rotation types didn't necessarily match up well with the actual offerings when we went through the spin. I'm really happy with everything I ended up with except one of them (we do 7 5-week blocks as well), and it will probably be fine content wise - just will be driving to a very inconvenient location for 5 weeks. We also all have to come back to campus for 1 week at the end to make up the ACPE-required 36 weeks. Not sure what that will be like yet, but it will give us all a chance to see everybody one last time before graduation.

The only thing left I need to get on my schedule is a traditional retail rotation :s

Some of the rotation schedules just look scarce - I'm glad we got to go more places.
 
I won't know until April. But I already know that I have all of August off! Yeah!
 
UIC does it differently than most schools. We are placed into groups, and we pick our rotations directly from a computer system. You know immediately what you have.
The required rotations are Community, Hospital, Medicine, and Ambulatory Care. You'll then pick two electives.

They should really pick a different name for your "Medicine" rotation... its a little generic - don't cha think?

I think it is a tradeoff - I have heard that some with 4 week rotations feel that as soon as they start to get a grip on the rotation, its time to switch. 6 weeks allows you to get a more in depth experience... at the expense of more variety.

Now that fact that our school's general selection was lacking is a totally different issue... 🙁

UIC is not known for coming up with clever class names. Medicine rotation is the one which is floor based. You can take more of a general medicine rotation. You can also take a specialty one, i.e. liver, oncology, geriatrics, etc. Hospital rotation is more of a staffing rotation.

ho ho ho! Just got an e-mail from rotation coordinator, 4 of my 5 requests for change were approved! Yippy!!!!! :banana:

It's an aminoglycoside, but not one that we specifically used in therapeutics. So it probably, but not necessarily, follow gentamicin clearance. I don't like to make assumptions. You know what they say about "assume" -- it makes "ass" of "u" and "me" 🙂 I could go look it up to be sure, but then I realized that's your job. 😀

You're keen an didactic studies yet not so much on real life application of drugs. Not that you're interested in any of this, but are you a retail guy?
