Hello everyone. I am currently going into my Junior year of undergrad as an ROTC cadet on scholarship. I have done a search but cannot seem to find an answer to my questions about my payback time. First, I know i have a commitment to the Army. Could I pay back this commitment while doing the National Guard Option? Am I eligible for a military residency if I do this? Also, how does the FAP work for the Army and ROTC cadets as far as pay and payback time. Finally, I know I owe either four year active or six years guard because of my ROTC commitment. If I was to take the HPSP could I pay back four years active after residency then do six years in the guard? I appreciate everyone taking the time to answer my questions.

1) Yes you should be able to pay it back in the guard, but you have to get a GRFD contract worked out with your school
2) No you wouldn't be eligible for a military residency, which is a huge plus. I would never want to do a military residency anyway
3) See the National Guard med student program thread above for $ issues--it's an incredible deal
4) Don't take the HPSP scholarship--just don't do it

Echo this.....list what state you are in and talk to an AMEDD Student Recruiter form the Guard. When you look at the stipend programs and the ASR it is a great option. Additionally, I echo the non military residency option. Right now the HPSP programs , I believe, are at their mission and the AF was over. They can slot you whereever they want.

I am in PA, but the other ASRs have resources for most of the other states.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.
