Has anyone received a letter indicating that they are placed on the Rush waitlist? I'm really disappointed -- I was hoping for an acceptance very much.

I'm so happy someone responded to my post. Thank you. I hope we both get in...I'm anxious about the tiering method they are using (ie. top third, middle third, lower third).

Always happy to wallow with someone in the same boat. And yea, I want to find out where I am on their waitlist so I can know whether I have a chance or not.

riverwoman, they decide the waitlist order after April 15th. They tell us after May 10.
 
So who else is on this waitlist?
 
There must be more than just two people on SDN that want to declare that they are waitlisted at Rush.

Come on. Celebrate the agonizing and painstaking wait with us!

It's varied quite a bit each year. Last year, I don't believe any one came off the waitlist. Earlier years had lots of movement. I don't know how this year will be.

Got that waitlist letter yesterday. Don't feel either way about it though. Hate waitlists.
 
Sorry about the waitlist, but it's better than a rejection! Just wondering, when did you interview?
 
Does this mean that all final decisions have been sent out? Anyone else that interviewed mid to late March hear anything?

hey kct15, i think i may be in your group to hear back from rush (i interviewed 3/21). i was told that it wouldn't be till the week of april 15th..so i was assuming we wont hear anything for another week or so.

I interviewed on 3/26, the very last day of interviews...and I believe I was actually the last interviewee to finish up! I wasn't sure if the admissions committee was only meeting one more time since interviews wrapped up or if they were planning on 2 meetings to finish up applicant evaluations. Hopefully we both hear some good news soon! I'm a wolverine too...Go Blue!

March 7th. Does anyone know the stats on last year's waitlist? Like how many actually got accepted off of the list. Thanks!
 
I believe they said no one got off the waitlist last year ... but it varies dramatically from year to year.

yeah apparently they over enrolled last year (140) last year there was no movement b/c of the size of the class..but this year they want to get it back to a size of 128 and they seemed to imply that the waitlist will move more this year than last year, i believe if you are in the top third of the waitlist you have a good chance of getting off. i think you can find out your third after may 15 or around that date. this is what i remember from my interview day 🙂
 
I'm joining. Oh yeah, and we find out May 10th which third we're in. Last year had NO waitlist movement. I hope to god this year is different. Note to self: stay away from "Rush Class of 2011" thread.

HappySnake, worry not. I got the same thing. So......we're both out! 😉

I think they just took the system down since there are no more status checks, just waitlists.

I am on the waitlist and I also got that message on the Infostatz page.
 
I would imagine they're just clearing the system for the next application cycle. I don't think that's a rejection.

What do we have, about ten people in this thread? I wonder what fraction of total waitlisters this sample represents. I mean, the UBuffalo waitlist thread is 8 freakin pages long, but on the other hand, as people have said, it seems like Rush applicants don't use SDN as much.

I wish they make acceptances off the waitlist conditional upon posting on SDN! :laugh: :laugh: This waiting is a bunch of BS. I am going to bed.....

We chatted with Jill when there was off-time in between interviews and she said that they had no movement from waitlist last year, but she was certain that there would be some movement this year...its all a numbers game as many of you know, and the reason she said they think there will be movement is because once they accept someone, they can see the other schools the applicant has been accepted to. With that logic, she said that several acceptees are holding multiple offers which increases the chances of them going elsewhere, and thus being some movement on the waitlist.
 
I'm bored, so I'll predict how many people will get taken off the list: 23.

37 (Divide number of acceptances by arbitrary number of factors that matter + another arbitrary number of fingers needed to enter Med school - standard deviation of number of normalized BS numbers = 37. Simple Math)

Not I. Hopefully their upcoming email will include a rough estimate of waitlisters accepted, along with a rough estimate of how many people are on the waitlist this year.

Edit: I'm trying to figure out which limbs to sever in case I'm that 0.6-er. Do you think my legs and one of my arms is 60% of my body?

Hahahahaha. I think one leg and arm should do it, granted they are your dominate limbs. :laugh:
 
I was asked what I was doing next year about 24 times today within a 4 hour period.

"Hopefully, going to medical school"
 
I just wanted to let you all know that I will be withdrawing from Rush as of today. I got an acceptance to UIC and since I am a veteran I am going to let the state of Illinois pay for my education. Good luck to all of you and I hope there is a lot of waitlist movement as May 15th approaches.:luck: :luck: :luck:

I was just reading greytmedic's mdapplicant page. Man! What a CV! Fantastic experiences. And thanks for the Rush withdrawal. Wouldn't have stood a chance against that competition!

I just checked it out. Holy S**t! I'm surprised you didn't interview at NWU and MCW. Congrats to greytmedic though.
 
As I was periodically freaking out, a good friend brought back this old quote from West Wing:

This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can't get out. A doctor passes by, and the guy shouts up, "Hey, you, can you help me out?" The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on.

Then a priest comes along, and the guy shouts up, "Father, I'm down in this hole. Can you help me out?" The priest writes a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on.

Then a friend walks by. "Hey, Joe, it's me. Can you help me Out" And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, "Are you nuts? Now we're both down here." The friend says, "Yeah, but I've been down here before - and I know the way out."
 
So we are getting close to May 10th. Anyone nervous? I still think we won't hear until after May 10th.

So how many of you out there are like me...Rush is the only option for the fall (the only waitlist and no acceptances)? Also curious, how many of you currently waitlisted have an acceptance elsewhere and will likely pass up the opportunity to go to Rush?

I'm in the same boat. Seriously hoping for a break in the clouds here.
 
Just out of curiosity (and if you are willing to share), what are backup plans for everyone?
 
Maybe get some work done. My PI is one more missed deadline away from firing me! 😀

Happysnake, I saw on the "What did you receive today?" thread you were accepted to SIU. Have you decided whether Rush, if accepted, over SIU?
