Stuck between RVC and UC-Davis. Tuition not a deciding factor. Any advice?

did anyone else get assigned Eleanor rosa? it was low on my list and i'm kinda concerned about the distance from campus so i'm strongly considering private accommodations and wanted to see if anyone was in the same boat!!

Hey guys, so I only just noticed that the 140 hours required are 70 Vet and 70 Animal Care hours. I am scrambling a bit to find something in my area that counts for the animal care. Any tips? I really want to apply to the RVC, but IDK if I will be able to get 70 hours somewhere by Sept 16th💀

If you have less than 70 total hours I highly suggest maybe taking a year to accumulate more hours to bolster your applications to any/all schools. The applicant pool is extremely large and most students are applying with hundreds/thousands of hours. Having 70 vet care hours is good but not having a total of 140 between the 2 categories doesn’t look “great.” Not to say you won’t be successful but schools are looking for lots of experience and diverse experiences at that

Oh I have over 1000 veterinary hours in total, but in the requirements it said we needed those 70 hours within the 18 months before the deadline for applying. I have the veterinary hours from my technician job, but for the non-clinical animal work it is all outside of the 18 month timeline. I might of found something though, so there is hope!

Maybe you could reach out to any shelters/rescues in your area and see if you could volunteer? Also, I'm pretty sure RVC likes it when you have a variety of experience, so if you can get any experience with farm/equine/exotics/wildlife animals, I would definitely look into that, if possible! I'm from a not-very-rural area, but I was still able to volunteer with a therapeutic riding center to gain some experience working with horses.
