Heyo, I'm a student at Oregon State University and just recently got accepted into the Royal Veterinary College in London. I have a pretty good understanding on how well most of the US schools stack up to each other but I was wondering if anyone has any insight into this school in particular.

there was just recently a thread on this...I think it was RVC Reputation or something. You can try searching that. How/when did you hear about your acceptance???? I just interviewed this week, but I am soo anxious! I'm assuming you interviewed earlier at the San Fran. ones...

Hey! Congrats! I too am curious where you interviewed...I was in NYC last week to interview for RVC. From what I have heard and read, RVC is a very impressive school. They have many state-of-the-art facilities and they have done a rehaul of their curriculum to improve it.

yes, I'm curious too. I interviewed in New York this week as well, so I'm hoping you interviewed in San Fran and I still have a shot. Did they send you an email?

So I was in the San Fran interviews and they sent it in an email. I don't want to freak anyone out, but I got the email 5 hours after the interview. I also don't want to sound like a pompous prick about it, but I think they really dug my interview and that's why I got the email so fast and before the New York interviews even started. Thanks so far about the info about the school and I'll check out that other thread!

wow....must have been one helluva interview!! 😛 I also see you got into Dublin... me too! I assume you got the email notifying North American students are getting an extension until March 30th to decide (not 21 days like the letter said).... it was because of that initial letter I also emailed Margaret Kilyon to ask how many seats are being offered to US students after interviews are done (I needed to gauge my odds at being accepted elsewhere).... she said the RVC is going to give 30 seats to North American students (she didn't mention if there would be a waitlist or not).... so good luck everyone that interviewed!

too late, you already did freak me out!😱
But congratulations! Did you get accepted to the 5 year or 4 year program?
Word is they only take 30 out of the 150 interviewed! double😱😱

I went with the 5 year program. I figure it's gonna be one hell of a life change during that first year so I might as well take a slower route and get used to the environment. Kiki, I did get that email and thank god becuase I almost sent them a denial letter due to the 21 day countdown. Could have been a mistake, but we'll see, I don't even know all of my choices yet.

OK what is this email talking about having 21 days/or until end of March to decide? I interviewed in San Fran and I thought it went really well too...but the only email I got a few days later was thanking me for interviewing and saying my application is being considered. I'm a little nervous after hearing they are taking 30/150 people now...I was pretty confident before 🙁 I want to go to London so bad!

you're right Oysterboy, it will be! But if you decide to go to RVC I know you will LOVE London. I live in NYC so not that many cities impress me, but London sure did! btw, RVC is right by platform 9 3/4 (I'm not kidding, they actually erected a real one) so if you don't like it you can just transfer to Hogwarts😉

And Dublin! Arg, I wish I had applied there! I didn't even realize they had a 4 year program...wish I had done my research a bit better! Good luck with whatever you decide!

and Sognidoro, I feel your pain. I wanna go there so bad too and my confidence disintegrated when I found out how many people would get in...the email with the 21 days notice is in reference to Dublin though, not RVC.

I was interviewed and I am now waiting haha. I want to know how willing they let people do the 4-year program. I can't afford to do 5 years so I want to know if they actually offer a 4 year for Americans often. Any previous grads/ knowledgeable people know??? 😕

I am not a recent grad or anything, but after speaking with my interviewers and Margaret, my impression is that they are generally pretty unwilling. She said it is not a question of ability, but that their experience is that US students need an extra year to adjust to life abroad and British education. She said they do accept US students into it under "exceptional circumstances." I think that means if you have a really high GPA, really impressed them, or you've gone to school there before. I wouldn't really count on it though...

Thanks for the info. Thats exactly what I wanted to know. 🙂

So, has anyone heard any news (aside from oysterboy)? Has RVC started to email out decisions yet to North American students? The anticipation is killing me! 😀

I hear ya, I'm anxious to find out too! Does anyone have any idea how they will be notifying us? I had my interview in San Fran on 2/2 and they told me it would be three weeks from then, so that would put it at 2/23.

... is KILLING me! : /
Did everyone get the e-mail saying their application is being considered after interview? I don't remember that...

I knowww!! I can't take it. They said in the email that we would hear by the end of February at the latest. So anyyy dayy now! I believe they notify be email (or they did last year and thats how they've been sending all correspondence).

So....uhhh.... REALLY, ANY DAY NOW!!!!!! We are down to the last days of February... :scared:

Kiki!! These people are gonna give me a coronary heart attack!! WHY don't they just tell us if we got in or not!!! 😱

Well my friend that interviewed with them in NY on the 6th was notified last thursday by a very brief email that he was accepted. And a new user posted yesterday that he/she was accepted there, but didn't say when. However, there may still be a glimmer of hope, because the email my friend received was specifically addressed to him, and not like an automated email sent out to all the accepted applicants. So maybe tommorrow?? I've significantly reduced my expectations to ease the very likely devestation.

I am going to have a heart attack too!! Every time I check my email my heart starts pounding...and each time I hear someone else getting accepted I feel worse. I seriously thought I was a great candidate and was super confident. I have lived abroad twice before, have a high gpa--they even told me I had a very wide range of experience, and my interview seemed to go off without a hitch! If I don't get accepted (which now I am thinking actually might be the case) I am going to be devastated. We'll just keep our fingers crossed Hopefulvet! I'm with ya!

One more thing...when I interviewed, the admissions lady was talking about how they were really pushing getting more males in the program since they seem to be dwindling in the profession...Not sure if that has to do with anything but I thought I would add it.

ugh, not fair. That makes sense bc my friend who got in is a guy. I don't get it either, I have like 1000 hrs across three diff areas, a 3.8 science GPA, and I studied abroad in London for a year and visited the school. Why isn't that good enough for them!

Seeing as how tomorrow is the last day of February...I have come to terms that I am not one of the 30 people offered admission.... I'm quite honestly a little surprised that there weren't more successful SDNers at getting into RVC (or maybe they haven't posted in this thread?)....

hey kiki, I'm thinking the same thing. I thought I was a pretty good applicant, but I guess not good enough. I'm pretty bummed. I re-read that email they sent after interviews, and it said "they expect" to make final decisions by the end of this month. Maybe they're still deciding? Probably not, but it's annoying to keep us waiting.

I know some people who interviewed in Feb last year didn't find out until mid-march. But that may just mean they got in after some of the original offers were turned down...even if I do get in off of some unofficial waiting list, I'm assuming being in the 4 year program is out of the question. After already having some offers to 4 year programs, I can't see myself choosing a 5 year one anyway.

Oh well, there go my dreams of moving back to London🙁

Well here is the email I got:

"Thank you for attending an interview with the RVC in San Francisco.
Your application is being considered and we will email you as soon as
possible to give you a decision. Please be aware that this process may
take a few weeks but we hope to let all candidates know the outcome of
their application by the end of March."

So I'm still holding out!

If I remember correctly from past threads, RVC notoriously takes longer than they say to get information to US applicants. I know you guys have heard about other acceptances, but hang in there! I'm rooting for you! I plan on applying there myself next cycle and it is my top choice, so hopefully we'll all be there one day. 😀

thanks ckd! I hope you're right! And Sognidoro, that's weird...after I interviewed in NY I got an email that said thanks and bla bla and "We expect to make final decisions by the end of this month the latest" which means tomorrow. I wonder if she meant end of march...there's no way I can wait until the end of March!! :scared:

That BARELY gives you 6 months to get your life together!!! If I don't hear from them until then, I'll most likely assume it's a rejection, have already made my decision, and will have started the process of moving to another school already. Especially when you're talking about going overseas and picking a place to live for 5 years, I don't think they're being reasonable.

I'm not going to lie- I'm actually a little upset here at the audacity! 😡

I'm getting married this summer- I need to be able to tell my new husband and our family what COUNTRY we'll be living in within a reasonable amount of time, and they're cutting it close..

Is this some kind of test?

LOL pyxystx! I'm totally with you. But this is typical of Brits- they're very intelligent people, but the administration is usually not very efficient🙄 Like Boris (London's mayor) trying to get rid of all the "bendy buses"...Or how after the recent big snow storm that shut down London for a day, businesses were still keeping closed 2 days later after roads were clear...

I can't wait till March either, especially because for 10 days during March I'll be on Spring break and will be freaking out without constant internet access!!

HAHHAHA well looks like I won't have to wait till March!! I GOT IN!!!!

way for them to wait for the last day!!!!!!!!!!

After I saw bovinus' post on the acceptance thread just now, I thought I'd check my email one last time, AND THERE IT WAS!!!!

(my NEW new year's resolution is to stop being so friggin' pessimistic!!)

how am I supposed to get my homework done with this wonderful news???😱

Congrats Hopeful21!

I emailed Rached Smith about descision deadline and here's what I got:

Thank you for your email. You will hear from us within the first half
of next week with regards to the outcome of your interview.

Thank you for your patience.

Best wishes,
Rachel

I'm not sure if thats when their sending out rejections or of they are still deciding but there it is.

I don't think that means rejection, like someone from the San Fran interviews said, they wouldn't hear until March. It doesn't seem like a whole lot of people have been accepted yet...at least not from this forum (4 including me I think). Don't worry. Just try to focus on something else until next week! I know this whole week was torture for me!

Now just have to wait for Tufts...🤣

(just found the additional smiles)

Wow congrats hopeful! I can't lie, I'm jealous! Did you get accepted in the 4 or 5 year program?

YAY!! congratulations hopefulvet! 😀

thanks! I'm so excited! It didn't really specify in the email whether it would be 4 or 5 yrs, but they said there would be further details through the mail. I'm thinking it's the 5 yr program though...it doesn't seem like they really take US students into the accelerated program anymore😕

I've actually come to terms with that. Spending 5 years in England sounds good to me! Also, don't forget to post in the Successful Applicants thread when you get a chance! 😉

Congrats again!

made a post there just for you ckd😉
If I end up going to RVC (I think I will), I'll tell you all about it. I visited the school when I studied abroad in London, and they seemed really pleased that I knew a lot about the school and was showing strong interest at my interview.

Quite bizarre...I got a letter in the mail today from the RVC, and figured it was a rejection letter...I open it, only to find the letter is dated January 13, 2009 and is just a letter confirming my that my interview is February 6th at 10am.....HOW LONG WAS THIS LETTER FLOATING AROUND THE POSTAL SERVICE before it finally arrived at my mailbox today, February 28th??? Good thing I got an email of practically the exact same letter before I had my interview! Odd, very very odd.... I wonder how long it will be before I get news of a decision now.... June? Haha

haha kiki, you're not the only one. I think all the letters for interview invites came in this late. I figured out why too. THEY FORGOT THE ZIP CODE!!
I shot them an email letting them know to make sure that doesn't happen with the acceptance letters.

I just got my acceptance to the RVC!! :soexcited:I found it in my junk mail folder...jeez glad I checked before deleting. Good luck to everyone else!:luck:

I just got an acceptance email this morning too!! I seriously had lost most hope! Yay!!

wooo hooo you guys!!! :highfive:

so are you definitely going, or are you still waiting on other schools??

also, Sognidoro, do you speak Italian by any chance? Or did you pick your sn from Latin? I speak a good amount of Italian and was just wondering. But Italian and Latin are so similar sometimes I don't know where some of the words originated first...

I haven't decided if I'm going or not. I also applied to Minnesota which is my IS and it sounds like I should be hearing a decision next week. I feel like my heart says RVC but my head says IS because of family and financial reasons. Plus if London is an extra year that makes a difference...

And yes hopefulvet, I speak (some) Italian! I studied abroad in Florence for a semester and liked Italian so much after that I took 3 more semesters of it at home. It's so hard to keep up with it though if you aren't around it. I took a semester of German too because I lived in Austria for 3 months last spring...and boy that was so much harder for me to learn!

Have you decided where you want to go? What are your top choices at this point?

Awesome! I've never been to Austria, but I've been to Berlin before. I could not understand anything on the subway lines whatsoever, it definitely looks like a hard language! At least compared to Italian which is a breeze!

I have no idea which school to pick at this point. Like you, my heart says RVC, but my head says pick a school that's 4 yrs, and hence cheaper. I just don't know!! I miss London so much and want to go back so bad and I feel like I'll really regret it if I give up this opportunity to move back there. But then again, if I go to Edinburgh, I could always visit London on some weekends or holidays...

I just don't know! Maybe I should just use a magic 8 ball to decide.

Just got my acceptance this morning too! WooOoo HooOoo!!!

I totally did this dance...
:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

OMG guys!! I got an interview invite this morning!!! I am soo excited!! I need all kinds of suggestions for youu!!!! I can't believe this is happening to me! I believed in it and it happened OMG!

I just recieved my acceptance e-mail from RVC (3/2/09 about 6:00 AM CST)!!!

How is everyone deciding for/against? Of course many things to think of now...

RVC: Accepted
Ohio State U: Accepted!
Colorado: Reeeejected
Davis: ""

If I get into MN, I seriously have no idea how I am going to decide. Almost everyone I know says to go to London for sure...and then there's my parents who think its a ludicrous idea for me to go anywhere other than Minnesota since it's so convenient. And they think since I've lived abroad before that's good enough. But seriously, once you've lived in Europe once it's like an obsession to get back as many times as you can!! I totally feel like I would be missing out on an experience of a lifetime if I don't go to London. So...we'll see. Five years is a LONG time. Part of me wishes that I don't get into MN so I won't have to make a choice. That's so funny about the eight ball hopefulvet...I was thinking of flipping a coin! Congrats to everyone else that got in! Let me know what you decide!
