Hello, I have an acceptance to both Rocky Vista University in Colorado and Kansas City University in Kansas City. I am struggling to decide between these schools. Of course it is likely to change, but I am currently striving for a residency in some type of surgery if that matters. The factors I have been considering are:

RVU
Pros:
  • better board pass rates
  • higher % match into competitive specialties
  • only DO school with ACS accredited surgical simulation center
  • Much better location for me personally with family etc.
Cons:
  • Private, for-profit school
  • Only 17 years old
  • about $100k more expensive over four years
KCU
Pros:
  • One of the original 5 Osteopathic schools
  • State owned
  • about $100k less expensive over 4 years
Cons:
  • Worse location for me personally
  • slightly lower board and match scores
Given these factors, which school would you put a deposit on? Are there other factors I am missing?

KCU, save the 100k. It is one of the most well-liked DO schools too on top of being one of the original ones.

Thank you for bringing that up. That’s a typo on my part. They are a non-profit, privately owned university. So still seems better than for profit but not as big of a difference.
