McGillGrad's tongue-in-cheek comments aside, congratulations to the gal who got Neurosurg. I'm sure she worked hard for her spot.
Still, I would admonish everyone to, among many other factors, consider the overall residency match picture of each school over the past several years when deciding where to go, especially in the Caribbean. Remember that a "study of one" makes for an interesting anecdote, not a trend.

Well, if we're going to continue to "whip it out and compare size" then, there were (at least) 6 matches in Radiology from Ross this year, 11 matches in Emergency Medicine (including a spot at Duke and one IM/EM spot at ECU), and 18 matches in Anesthesiology (14 of which are University-based). We also had a graduate match in the much-coveted Orthopedic Surgery field.
I'm sure you're proud of your school, and congrats to the incoming interns and all, but my comments still stand.

Skip, I congradulate everyone from all the legitimate caribbean schools on their success, you included. I am the first to tell people when asked, that Ross has a great record. Saba, for a school that is so new, is very impressive, especially since their graduating class is smaller. Prospective students need to take in many factors into their decision including match results, cost, and life on the island. As much as I am proud of Saba, I always by the way, recommend SGU above all other caribbean schools.

very well said. i would also note that the match list at sgu (and probably ross, saba, auc etc) are underrepresentative of competitive placement. For reasons that to this day I can't understand, sgu seems to be incapable of getting a list that includes not just internship placement but PGY-2 catagorical residencies. Several rads people as a for instance are missing from this years list. I know because one is a friend who will be coming to brigam and women's and she knows others. There was someone who was interviewing for neurosurgery but no clue as to whether or not he matched. So anyway, the list is woefully underrepresentative. Nevertheless, again, I fully support Skip's caveat. Well said.Skip Intro said:
