SABA not until Jan 06

Which is a better option?
is saba Way better?

wHat should i do????

please help

do research on each school and then decide which is better for you. example, smu---nicer island, but saba is more established and you can practice in CA. if you're one of those people that might not be able to handle the "island" life, then don't go to saba because your academics might suffer. If you think you can handle it, go to saba---smaller class size and it's more proven than smu. these are just some of the things to take into consideration, but in the end both schools will allow you to take usmle, obtain a residency in the u.s., and get licensed. however, with saba you will probably get a better residency spot, and have fewer problems when it comes to getting licensed (smu is fairly new and only has a few licensed graduates).

If I had to choose, I would choose SABA because of a strong reputation considering how long it has been an established Med School.

I am planing to apply to saba for Sep 2006.
what was your experience with saba application?
I Have GPA 3.95 and MCAT 22.
Thank you

Take the MCAT again if you can get a 29 or 30 you will get in here! How many times have you taken it? the carib is great but its a last option. Do your best to stay here! If all else fails and you want to practice in CA then go to saba. Otherwise I'd go to smu.

It's comments like this that makes me wonder if one day when you're a resident you'll ask your attending "this guy is bleeding out, do you think that's normal"? Seriously, with a 3.95 gpa why would you want to go to a caribbean school when you can get accepted into a u.s. school. If you can get that mcat close to 30 you'll have a good chance at a top 50 u.s. school, unless that gpa is from a community or clown college you're a very competitive applicant. If that gpa is legitimate you probably worked very hard to earn it, so do yourself a favor and go to a u.s. school. If your application is missing something else (volunteer, research, extra-curriculars, etc. ) take this upcoming year to study for the April mcat and do whatever else is needed to improve your application. The caribbean should be the last option if you don't get in somewhere in the u.s. By the way, do some research on caribbean vs u.s. on these forums, talk to some physicians, and take a look at the island that some of these schools are on.

I couldnt agree with drmikey more. if you can stay in the US. do it. the caribbean med school is your LAST option. with a 3.95, get them MCATs up, you can do it man. We all know you can. If you cant, hit up the caribbean, but seriously put in some serious effort to do well on the next MCAT. If anything it will help you in the long run, and when that long run is done it will be well worth it.

thank everybody. i think i will retake the MCAT again. but i have problem English is my second language so I can not get more than 4 or 5 in verbal for now. i will try to improve it.

I went to Saba, so perhaps I'm somewhat biased but 90+% of those who I started with matched into the speciality of their choosing... A friend of mine who is categorical in my prelim medicine year from SMU told me that 90+% of those with whom he started with didn't even match. I'd stick to what works. When I had to make a choice, Saba was A LOT CHEAPER than St G's. Not sure how it is now, but it's an affordability issue, Saba can't be beat.

SABA and SMU are great schools.
Just make sure you follow your heart.

Good luck!
