Anyone going to Sacred Heart in the fall of 2014? Would be cool to meet people that will be in my cohort.

I'm interviewing there next Friday. What did you think about the campus/facilities?

You don't interview at the actual Sacred Heart campus. Where you have the interview is in a building a few miles from the campus where all the OT, PT and other science classes are held. I liked the facility that I will be having classes in.

FYI, there are two components to the interview, a problem based learning interview and a individual interview. The thing to watch out for is the "individual" interview. Depending on how many people are at that interview day, you WILL be broken up into groups of 8 or 9 with two faculty members. The "individual" interview is the faculty asking you one question each (2 questions total) where you respond and the rest of your little group can here. The problem based learning is fun but I can't tell what that's about. Oh, and the faculty might not have business cards with them and might need to run to their office. If they don't hand them out, go up to them discreetly towards the end of the interview and ask for one. Even though you can find their email addresses online, I think they'd appreciate someone asking (if they didn't bring any cards with them).

I was thrown off by the "individual" group interview but I got accepted. Just wanted to pass on the heads up. Best of luck.

Are the questions hard? I'm ok with one-on-one interviews but I've never done a group interview. And what do you do in the problem based interview? I'm starting to get really nervous...

Thanks for your help!

For the questions that the faculty ask you, it's hard to say. There's a lot of basic interview questions, but you can't tell which one you'll get. They have a list of questions that they'll ask, but since they've read your application, they will ask you which questions they feel are appropriate to you and other questions to other people. Just go over some of the basic questions related to OT interviews that you've probably read up on.

For the problem based learning portion, they basically give you a problem with a list of questions and you have to work with the group and do your best to solve the problem. Doesn't matter if you're right or wrong. I can't tell you what it will be about. I want to be safe than sorry (in case one of the faculty is on this site for whatever reason). But they want to see how well you work in a group. The important part for this is to just be natural. Everyone in the group is nervous at first because nobody knows each other but at least for my group, once you start discussing the issue and figure out how to solve it, everyone's role in the group will develop naturally.

The faculty are awesome.

No that's fine, that's plenty of info. Thanks again.

No problem, good luck at the interview.
Anyone else either going or interviewing at Sacred Heart?

How did it go RedDevilOT?

Anyone else interviewed there or going?

It went well! They said they have 2 more interview dates but hopefully I hear back soon!

Awesome. Did they say when those two dates were out of curiosity? I want them to be done so they can solidify the class and send out orientation material. Did you have a large group of people? For my interview, there were 26 other people besides me. Make sure to send the faculty that interviewed your group a thank you note ASAP if you haven't already.
I'm not sure if all interviews were like mine, but I found out very quickly. I had mine on Friday, February 7 and got the acceptance by February 11.

Nice. I wonder when the last interview date is/when they'll be solidifying the class list. I can't wait to get orientation information. Anyone else apply or get in to Sacred Heart?

At my interview, they said they hoped to have everything solidified by April 1st.

Hey! I am in the SHU program now. You won't get orientation information until this summer, regardless of when they fill the class. The faculty are amazing! Congrats on getting accepted and good luck with interviews if you're interviewing!

I interviewed there at the end of February. Still waiting to hear. Congrats on getting accepted! 🙂 I could be mistaken, but I thought they said the last interview date was March 21, which I thought was pretty late. But again, I could have misheard.

I seem to have heard March 21 as the last date as well. I know that they'll send out a Facebook buddy group on April 1 to help get roommates and stuff. Anyone else interview or hear back/get accepted?

@OTprospect, have you heard back?

Anyone else?

I think they may be doing one more interview, and I know final decisions will be made by April 1, so they might just be making the last few groups of interviewees wait until they wrap everything up. Hope you hear back from them soon.

Hey, I just interviewed on march 21.. The last of the last interviews.. I'm so nervous... Do they reject people after an interview? Does anyone know how many seats are left? 😢

I'm not sure how many seats are left. There's been a number of interviews and it's rolling admission. For whatever reason I found out I got accepted four days after interviewing, but a lot of people in the later interviews haven't heard anything so I expect they are wrapping things up. Kathy said all decisions will be made by April 1. Which faculty did you interview with?

I'm can't remember her name. But yeah, she told is the same thing that all decisions will be made by April 1st.. So I'll probably be hearing from them soon..

But I'm just scared about the whole decision process. The interview process went well for everyone in my group so it's hard to determine who will get accepted and who won't.. :/

You had one faculty member per group? At mine I had two, Lola and Lenore. Both were awesome. I felt exactly the same way about the interview process. I thought I completely screwed up the "individual" interview where the faculty asked us individual questions within the group. I had two very vague questions. And it was hard to tell with the group part. Everyone in our group was awkward at first but we naturally fell into roles that fit with our strengths. If you haven't sent a thank you note yet, it would definitely be a good idea to do that. It's hard to get their individual cards because they kind of pack up and go right after the interview (before the grad student starts the Q & A session) so I think they would definitely appreciate it: the emails are on the faculty portion of the Sacred Heart OT webpage.

Honestly, I have NO idea how they decide.

Thanks. I was not prepared for the acceptance. I had mine February 7th. It was originally supposed to be February 5th but there was a bad storm so they changed the date two days beforehand. I was having a ton of trouble rescheduling flights, stuff with work and such, so that was certainly an unexpectedly good piece of news.

In the "individual" group interview, what did they ask you?

Thanks for advice.. Yeah we were divided into three different groups and each group had one faculty member.

Yeah, they left pretty fast after the grad student came so I wasn't able to ask for her card unfortunately.. 🙁

Since u got in, how did you make yourself stand out if you don't mind me asking..

It was what you said, they picked out questions from a list and it was totally random.. It was like general questions how do you deal with conflict, a bad supervisor you can't work with.. Something like that..

For our PBL everyone worked together so that's why I'm nervous.. How did u make yourself stand out?

No problem. Before the two faculty from my group left, I asked for their card and they had to go to their office to get one. I think one other person from the group I was in asked for it. Emailed them thanking them right away. One of them, Lenore, talked about a service trip they go on abroad each year. This was really interesting to me and I was chatting with her about it. One of my questions they asked was, "What's your passion." I thought I screwed up because I said "helping people," but I expanded on that and talked about my involvement in a service fraternity for several years while I was in undergrad awhile back. During the group portion, now that I think about it, we divided up into several smaller groups with a few people each to tackle the situation and I felt like I was one of the leaders of the group. I also thanked Kathy. I was having a ton of trouble getting out there and she was awesome and helped me out a ton figuring out different things.

Ookay ic thank you congrats again..

I really hope I get in.. I'm so nervous.. Did u apply to any other school other than sacred heart?

Yeah, Midwestern, Huntington, Mulligan and Rush. Midwestern I was waitlisted at (kind of glad I didn't get accepted - it seems to be a huge applicant mill, over 1100 people applied this year), Rush I was rejected/denied, and the other two I canceled the interviews I had because Sacred Heart was the place I wanted to go. How about you?

NYit, downstate, Liu, and sage.. I haven't heard back from any schools yet .. That's why I'm so nervous about getting into at least one school.. :/

Yeah, the wait's tough. It really is a gamble with all the applications. What's your #1 school?

Btw downstate and sacred heart.. At this point, I will take anything.. This wait game is driving me nuts..:hungover:

Btw do you know how much sacred heart tuition is? I saw somewhere that's it's 10,000 something tri-semester but I'm seeing people post that it is 96,000 or something like that.. I live in another state.. How much would tuition be? :depressed:

Thanks again for all ur help btw

Maybe with living expenses, tuition, books, and other misc. stuff. It's $10,400 per trimester, three trimesters in a year, and two years and a few months. I don't know if they will charge the full tuition for the last few months because that's during Fieldwork Level II.

Okay.. Thanks!

I interviewed the last week in February and still haven't heard anything yet. I also haven't been accepted anywhere yet but I've been wait listed at 2 schools. My nerves are shot lol

Well at least your wait listed, so that's a start.. Lol congrats.. I'm still waiting for any sign of decision-making whatsoever.. Lol

Decision should be all in by April 1 for sacred heart, so u and I should be hearing from them soon.. So good luck!

Has anyone heard anything yet other than the people above?

You should hear something tomorrow one way or the other.

I just got an email. I wasn't accepted but I will be attending another program in the fall anyway.

I hope you hear soon! I know the waiting process is stressful! I will be attending Stockton.

Did u have to interview for Stockton? I wished I applied there.. :/

Yeah, I had to interview. I was originally wait-listed but got the acceptance call a few days ago. There is a Stockton thread on here too if you search for it. I guess they accept a bunch of their undergrads because they have the BS/MS OT program I think. I guess I got lucky.
