Hey guys, I've been feeling a little down lately and thought I'd get some advice from sdn. I'm a second time applicant and have taken the DAT two times. My main problem lies within the perceptual ability section. I really thought I'd do better on my second attempt, but was wrong.

2012 >> 2013
PA 16 >> 15
QR 19 >>17
RC 19 >>16
Bio 17 >> 20
Gc 19 >> 25
Oc 19 >> 23
TS 18 >> 22
AA 19 >> 20

I'm frustrated that three of my scores went down. I feel like after the PAT section, my mind was not concentrating as well on the other sections. I did put my best into PAT when I studied, but it doesn't come to me as quick. When I studied CDP, the highest I scored on the last 5 tests were 19's and made 16's on achiever.

The first time I applied with my 2012 scores, I received one post-dec interview but was rejected a couple of months later. This time I have applied to only 4 schools and was planning on adding more once I knew my new scores, but I didn't.

My sGPA is 3.42 and 3.52 overall. I'm doing my own informal post-bacc this Fall and will start studying again for the DAT, but it scares me that I might score even lower. I'm not sure exactly what I want to ask. But I was wondering if there's any point in adding more schools, or just wait until I take the DAT again? I really didn't think I'd need to take the DAT a third time. I just feel like my life has been put on hold all of a sudden. So any advice is appreciated.

I'm sorry you scores went down in those three sections. It will be hard to get in with 2 sub 17 scores however you have drastically improved your science scores. I would for sure add some more schools. Do some research and see which schools don't have cut offs at 17 and which schools don't weigh the PAT and RC scores as much. Don't ever put your life on hold, there is still hope.

Howdy,

There's currently 31 d-schools that take the highest score. I'm not sure about highest scores from each sub-sections though. I think applying to few schools may be your problem. Get that " but it scares me that I might score even lower" thought out of your head or else it'll become a self-fulfilling prophecy. There's a TX user on this forum who made a TX-size gamble (50+ d-schools) with the same current RC score as yours, and he definitely hit the jackpot nonetheless. Since some schools were flat out unrealistic, I did about half that amount this time around. I recommend opening up an origami book, fashion blueprints, or anything really, to get that perceptual reasoning primed. Continue with your post-bacc and make sure to ace them. GL🙂

Hey docr7, I used CDP and as well and was scoring 20-23's on all of the practice exams, then got a 17 on the real DAT. I switched to DAT bootcamp and bought the PAT + RC packet for $20 (it's discounted currently) and wow, did it help! It was honestly much better than CDP and I paid over $100 for that. The RC and PAT sections on Bootcamp are both excellent.*Note* I already had the $77 packet of GC + OC + Bio + QR.

What you need to do is go through 75 questions in a row of each of the PAT sections on bootcamp. Then, do each of the 5 tests, do the angle ranking generator as well. I promise if you can master these, you will do very well on the PAT.

It is currently $20 for the PAT + RC section and $77 for the QR + GC + OC + Bio. I think you have to buy them all together for a total of $97. However, if this drastically helps you improve your scores, it is $97 well spent!

Helped me improve my DAT PAT from a 17 to a 21 (not to mention all my other scores went up as well). I bet you can do the same once you get it down!

Good luck my friend!

EDIT: Also, there are some schools that do not even consider PAT, only AA. You might want to look into applying to these schools.

Thanks. Will sure look into those schools. Did some research, and it seems like Kentucky doesn't place much emphasis on PAT, although I don't know if they are OOS friendly.

Thanks, I will add more schools and I did read about that TX user. I am a TX applicant myself. I have also read somewhere that one of the Texas schools is a little more lenient on the PAT section but not RC.

Thank You! I didn't know bootcamp had PAT. I guess it came in after I took my DAT. Will definitely look into it!

Apply with these scores. You're bound to get some more interviews. That TS is nice. Apply with these scores while planning to retake. I'm assuming your retake will be in November. So AADSAS will get your scores closer to the end of November and beginning December. That is a bit late, but just apply with these scores to try while planning to retake

Yes, I haven't started studying yet, but my retake would be mid-October. After doing some research last night I only added 3 more schools: Kentucky, Louisville, and Western. But I really hope Texas gives me a chance. :xf:

Tongue twister: Consider this, Western's WICHE.

Try saying it ten times in a row.
