I know this has been answered a million times... so i am sorry if already addressed... but I was doing some math... is this correct....

if you are making 140/hr work 18 ten hour shifts... are making close to 300,000 a year

140 x 18 x 10 x 12= 302400

also if work lets say an ten hour shift and stay 12 do you get paid for those 2 hours or is it salary at most places???

if my calculations are right then this is pretty good for three years of residency...

thanks

Ill try to knock this out quickly. Most attendings dont work 18 shifts a month. Most work 12-16 and if you are doing 16 then you are prob working 8 hour shifts. Im not sure how vacation works but you need to subtract that as well if its not paid.

As far as getting paid the extra 2 hours I doubt it cause then it would reward your ineffciency. Hope this helps.. avg Em salaries per alliedphysicians iis about 216K/yr... Typical hours are 1600-1800 per yr..

Good luck..

The docs I worked with made $240 and up, twelve 12-hr shifts a month.

At most places you only get paid for scheduled hours. If you can finish up and go home right at the end of your shift then that is a bonus but most people were I am from end up staying at least 15 min (sometimes a couple of hours) after the shift ends to tidy things up. The system that I am talking about is wierd though because almost half of your salary is paid by a bonus system that takes into account years of service as well as the quality of your billing, number of patients seen, and percentage of night shifts worked etc.

You def dont want to reward inefficiency.. I think salary of 225K as a non jr attending is reasonable to expect..of course in some areas thats a very low estimate.
