If you are getting ready to start dental school, and need private loans to subsidize what the fed wont cover, DONT USE Sallie Mae. Read carefully their terms. They are the only private lender that makes you pay $50 per loan you have, as "processing fee", when placing your loan in forebearance. If you are going to specialize, this will suck. And worse, you have to do this every six months. So every six months I write them a check for 300 dollars, just to be placed in foreberrance. My two other private lenders have placed me in deferment until 2011, no questions asked.

if you don't mind saying, what are your other 2 lenders. seems like most places are pretty standard in charging a 1.5% origination fee, but thanks for the heads up on sallie mae

yea - who are these other two lenders

i have a private loan from salliemae loan. you only pay the $50 processing fee when you are under an economic hardship forbearance BUT if you going to school at least 1/2 time, there are no payments at all.

are the other two Chase and Citi?

I dropped out of Medical School because of the constant harassment.

The collectors are despicable. It's as if they get more money if they make you fail.

The whole educational system needs to be reformed so that parasites like Sallie Mae are out of business.

You made a smart choice anyhow, as your carreer will soon be overworked and unpaid because of the 30 million new patients the fed shove down your thorat while cutting payments. Is that why you're hovering around here in the dental forum? 🙂

the AMA is behind the bill due to the increase in payments especially to primary care docs. 5% for all or 10% bump if in underserved locale. anyways, no way is this guy for real about dropping out.

"The United States' insistence that students assume huge debts to pay for their college education is unusual enough that the Chinese government included it in its 2001 report of American human rights violations. Now, China is no shining light when it comes to human rights but they do have an excellent point in this instance: America forces its young adults to go into obscene amounts of debt."

i'm sure there are other reasons that led to his decision to drop out of medical school.

so are there other lenders besides the three mentioned: chase, citi, and sallie mae?

I disagree.
You cannot compare the standards in any way what-so-ever.
we pay quite a lot in our countries as well, but the education is pretty much out-of-date.
I dont think its wrong to charge huge amounts of money if they give you a good education.
dont bother abt the chinese..
