hey guys,
when you write to withdraw from schools...do you keep it short i.e. I am withdrawing from your school or do you try to make it sound nicer (just like the rejection letters we get)? can someone please post a sample letter they've written? i need to withdraw from 2 schools and not sure the best way to go.

these threads always crack me up. its like premeds have to make everything 10x more stressful than it needs to be.

use this example:

Dear X university,

I realize that i'm just too sugary-good to attend your inferior institution. I know you want me, but you can't have me.

Suck it easy,

Your Name

And you expect to make life or death decisions on behalf of your patients? Just another mindless premed drone propped up by unrealistic parentally imposed ambition.

If I stressed out as much as OP about every little thing, I'd be scared of getting out of bed in the morning.

All you have to do is say, please withdraw my acceptance... anything else is up to you... They have a never ending list of people who want to get in, its no stress for them.

hey eraserhead,
thanks for being the only one to have the decency to take my thread seriously. i guess i just didn't want to seem rude to the adcom especially after telling them over the phone how ecstatic i was to get accepted to those 2 schools (it's albany and med college of ohio, and i was super happy after my first acceptance with albany).

it's great to know there are future doctors here who judge people they haven't even met and put other people down.

some possible phrases to drop in the letter:

1. it's not you, it's me.
2. I love you, but I'm not in love with you.
3. I could use time apart.
4. We've grown apart.
5. You're everything I've ever dreamed of in a woman, but you're too tall and you can't dance.

well, maybe not that last one...

I actually found this difficult to do as well. After working so hard to get into medical school it just seemed wrong to be declining offers. I just thanked the schools for giving me the opportunity to attend their institution and said that I must regretfully decline. Short and sweet (and professional).

Due to the great number of superbly qualified acceptances I have received this year, I regret to inform you "your school" will receive no further consideration for my attendance. I wish you the best of luck in finding other qualified applicants.

Cheers
