Has anyone taken the MCAT in San Diego recently? I would like to get some feedback on the test centers in the area; any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

I took my MCAT kind of out by Miramar and had no issues. It was quiet, staff was nice, no problems. Also, no parking issues at that site.

I took it last January in SD, the one on Shoreham Place. They won't let you bring anything into the actual test center, I was sick and I couldn't bring in tissue or a beanie with me, but they had tissue right outside the door at the moderator's desk. They have lockers for you to put your stuff into. The moderators were really cool, didn't have any problems with staff. The orange earcups SUCKED! and you can't bring your own earplugs, even if it's still in the package. They don't sit snug around the ears, so sound just leaks in, and they're not comfortable and become more of a distraction.

I was lucky in that I was the very first person to begin my test in my testing room, which meant I had quite a bit of complete silence as I eased into the the physical science section. That also meant that I was doing verbal while it was relatively quiet. Others were complaining that b/c they got a later start, they were doing their verbal section as others were on their writing section, so all they heard was people clacking away typing up their essays and they couldn't concentrate on reading a passage on some random artists' life and death; that must've sucked. So noise could be a problem.

Chairs, desks, computer screens were all fine, no problems. Temperature and environment were fine, never bothered me. Other than the earplug/noise issue, it wasn't too bad. I've definitely heard much worse.

Starting this thread up again!

Does anyone know if Miramar has airplane noise during Saturday afternoons??

I've read that there's no noise in the mornings usually, and it would be amazing if it extended throughout the day!

Wondering if I should try to change my testing center.

Thanks!!

It is very possible. Two of my friends took it there several years ago and complained of noise. I think they may do military training exercises there as well, so it wouldn't be all that surprising if you heard planes flying overhead on a weekend.

Hope that helps!

I did mine at Shoreham last July. To correct the above, you can bring stuff into the center except phones and the like and they have lockers; you just can't bring anything into the exam room itself. It may be true that you can't use your earplugs; I didn't try so I wouldn't know. Parking was aplenty. I had a good experience there (well as good as I imagine it could be) for both the MCAT and the GRE.

I took an MCAT at both the Shoreham Place Prometric Center and at San Diego State, and I found I liked the SDSU facility better. There were lower dividers between the desks, and I could actually see the test-taker next to me, which I found oddly comforting. Just my opinion
