Folks,

I have been offered a spot at SDSU (my first choice). I was on the waitlist and finally got a call yesterday. If I accept there is the accrediatation issue and the disclosures they want you to sign. I do have an acceptance at another out of state college.


1. The entry level DPT program is pending candidacy for eventual accreditation by a national accrediting body (CAPTE) recognized by the United States Department of Education.

2. If the program is not approved by CAPTE, and I wish to continue with my physical therapy education, I will be required to continue the entry level DPT program at another university in which an agreement between SDSU and other DPT program(s) prior to the students matriculation at SDSU.

3. If the program is not approved by CAPTE, I may have spent three years of training in a program that is not accredited. I may not be eligible to obtain state licensure as a Physical Therapist without CAPTE accreditation.
4. I understand that student loan or other financing may be affected by a change in institutions.

Since Cal State has other campuses that are accredited it seems to me that this would be a minimal risk, but would like some thoughts on the subject.

I'd take the risk just because a state school has a lot riding on its reputation. Plus, as you have mentioned, they have experts within the Cal State system they can tap if they needed assistance with CAPTE accrediting issues.

I would have to agree with you that the risk is minimal How would you answer the following questions

1) Why was this your first choice? Are you familiar with the school and reputation and if so would you agree the school is highly motivated to get accredited?
2) You were accepted somewhere else ..........how do you compare the schools in terms of cost, facilities?
3) where would you be happier living?
4) How committed are you to the other school ..ie have you started yet , did you sign a lease etc?
5) How soon do you have to decide?

I'd say go for it. I'm pretty sure SDSU will have no problem getting accredidated.

I would definitely NOT take the SDSU offer. I'm planning on them calling me next after you decline.
