Any of my AMC colleagues (or psych dept folks for that matter) ever set up satellite offices in other cities? I'm thinking particularly those of you in small college-town-ish cities.

I'm at a powerhouse AMC, but we're in a small-mid size city (~300k). Recruitment is exceedingly difficult. Part of this is the nature of our studies (stringent eligibility due to pharmacological manipulations and the I think in part just because the size of the city is just limiting. Demographics are also a little wonky compared to US general population, which sometimes works in our favor but also poses some challenges. For some studies we are yoked to the area due to equipment (obviously not feasible for us to set up another fMRI/PET center), but clinical trials. Cheaper things like EEG/eyetracking/peripheral we could feasibly set up elsewhere.

Anyone done something like this before? Pros/cons/challenges besides the obvious? I'm a little worried how our IRB will respond. We usually have physicians agree to be "on call" for trials, but not sure if "on-call and 1+ hour away" would be viewed as adequate coverage.
