SAVMA symposium

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
As of right now, I'm going! A classmate of mine did her undergrad at Purdue. Yes, they still do the breakfast club. Her little brother just sent her a pic of him and his roommates there last week. I'm excited!

When I was there, I'm pretty sure Breakfast Club was only on Saturdays of home football games and Grand Prix, but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm considering going, but funds are low for me. Last year was fun because I got to visit SF, too, but I'd hate to go this time and not get any of the cool wetlabs.

Color me super confused on the first Breakfast club morning I witnessed! haha and its like elefante7 said, only before home games. I'm very excited and lucky that I'm already at Purdue for this conference, especially since it's my first one!

Plus I would like to actually see some of your faces that are behind all those avatars! 😀

Just looked at the schedule for symposium and I got really excited about going. Oklahoma State is looking into taking a bus to save money, and that is pretty much the only way I will be able to go.

I was thinking about going! I'm just thinking about how half of my friends last year didn't even get 1 wetlab. 😡 I can't imagine planning on the trip and then realize you don't even get a webtlab just a trip to the zoo or some "fluff" event

I'm 90% sure I'm going!
Checking on some finances and then registering! Will figure out transportation later- either a bus both ways with LissaRae, or might spring for a flight at least one way.

How do the wetlabs work? first come, first served for registering?

lottery 🙁 like last year at Davis.

However, there are 2 registration dates (early-Jan, normal-March). I asked our SCAVMA rep if there is a benefit for registering early in terms of the lottery for wetlabs and she said she thinks there is, but is still waiting on final info from Purdue. It would be great if you were guaranteed a wetlab if you register early.

Oh yeah, I do remember hearing something about that.
I talked to my father earlier, and he said he can lend me some money if I run short for travel, so I am definitely going! Will probably register this week.

For people who have gone before and done the lottery thing, should I sign up for all the wetlabs I'm interested in, even if the times conflict just to be on the safe side? (IE, if I get into two at the same time somehow, I can drop one without an issue?)

Last year, when you registered you ranked the wetlabs you wanted at a particular timeslot/day, but you'd only get one.

Yea you ranked them, three choices was it?

But no guarantee for getting one. I know many people who didn't get any.

I've talked with some people though and they said last year at Davis was the only time they had a problem with the lottery system because so many people came...probably because it was California.

Considering it, but probably not going to go. Getting to host it (and helping out a lot with the planning and execution!) during my first year of school was an awesome experience, but I'm thinking that I might be better served skipping this year and perhaps trying to go again during 3rd year instead.

Packing the car with 4 people and driving 2 tanks there and 2 tanks back, it looks like the cost is going to only be about $50 each for travel and some of us may be able to get help with registration, so I'm definitely going now.

Glasgow will be there for our first one!

(We were just voted on this weekend and became the first official (non-associate) international student chapter--major excitement!!! 😀)
