I have recently transferred to a four year university after completing an associates at a community college. I expected the classes to be much more rigorous but nevertheless still find myself in that breathtaking panic with the thoughts of failure nipping at my heels. I am horrible at math and although I made it through college algebra and general chemistry with A's, many of the mathematic concepts totally vanished after the final. I need some tips for my courseload this semester. I have Physics II, Biology II, Organic Chemistry I, and feminist philosophy. I also volunteer three hours per week, have two hours per week of doctor appointments, and see a personal trainer for work outs five days per week. It's only the second week of classes and I feel like I'm drowning. ESPECIALLY in Physics II. The tutoring hours do not fit my schedule. I was spoon fed and had a horrible teacher for Physics I, I passed with an A only because I could bring one sheet of computer paper to every test and the sheets were cumulative. Literally anyone could have made an A. So I didn't learn jack from that course. I welcome any tips or feedback including "stop whining, this is doable"... because it is.

It's a tough semester but many in SDN have already done the unholy triad of physics bio and chem. I only took two at a time so I wouldn't know much about it.

Do you mind sharing a little bit more about this feminist philosophy course?

Welcome to the club. We took gen chem 2, physics 2, genetics, calculus, a seminar, and our Kaplan course all in one semester followed by ochem 1 and 2 in two 5 week sessions. It sucked.

You really need to know how you learn and study effectively. You shouldn’t use a semester like that to figure out your study habits because you’ll get way behind.

The good thing about physics 2 is that it is essentially all new concepts so you shouldn’t be too far behind the 8 ball there. As far as math goes, I’m guessing you’re taking trig based physics. Just go to the tutoring center.

Sure! At this point we are diving into theories, such as queer theory, or the understanding of just how fluid sexuality and sexual identity are. We have a lot of time we are suppose to volunteer (which isn't anything new for me). That's about all I know at this point.

Glad to know there is hope in physics. That was an impressive schedule. I will stick with my "light" schedule.

Yeah, you will have to put in work, but it is possible. Just be efficient. If something isn't working, don't try to make it work. Figure out something else and don't be afraid to ask for help before you get too behind.

If that is you in your profile picture, consider changing it to something non-identifying. Anonymity is cool.
