So I'm thinking about upgrading my tablet to Windows Vista (better handwritting recognition and such), but the build I want is Home Premium, which does not have domain support.

Does anyone use XP Home edition (or Vista Home P) on their laptop on campus and can still use wi-fi/internet? I would hope it's not domain-based, but something like authenticated with like a netID/pw...

what kind of tablet did you get?

I went with the HP TC4400 tablet. It was on-par w\ the Toshiba M400 tablet, but had less problems/better support from what I've heard, and Lenovo Thinkpad x61t's were just too expensive. Also, the fan noise isn't as bad on a tc4400 than the m400.

I opt'd to get one w\ a wacom digitizer screen (better for notetaking) than something like the HP tx1000us series, which only has a touchscreen and I have heard numerous things about how it is definitely not suited for taking notes/writing for long periods of time.

i went with the toshiba M400. I LOVE IT. i'm not having any problems with loud fan noises or problems. plus, i have my own technical support, my husband. he's an IT guru of sorts. He will be in charge of an IT dept at his new job in IL.

i love the OneNote feature. it recognizes my handwriting with no training at all. i already started setting up my notebooks and tabs. do you have the onenote feature.

The M400 is nice, I like how the screen/pen is a little more textured, giving the stylus a nice 'pen-on-paper' feel. And I guess i'm a 1-man IT unit, as I'm currently a junior computer specialist at the BioE dept. of U. of Wash. Hope your husband enjoys his new job, and maybe doesn't have much to do like I am now, browsing forums on work :p

Yeah, I love onenote, what a great new feature to the office family for me! perfect integration with the rest of the office suite (if you have the same version/year, I have all 2007 new stuff now). Although, I use crappy, non-cursive, weird print, I think it would help to have a little better handwritting recognition w\ vista's new built-in features.

yeah, i just got it delivered on tuesday. So it has all the new stuff. it did however have a bunch a crap i don't use uploaded already. my husband cleaned it all off. i got vista uploaded. it looks different from what i am used to, though. my husband had it on his desktop and i have been whining about him putting it on my old laptop. but it's on my new one so i'm happy now.

i like how i can take screen shots from the internet and drop them into OneNote and also my emails, too.

it's pretty neat. I like anything that deals with organization and compartmentalization. I'm bit of a organization freak :D

My husband's is always zipping around the internet looking at stuff plus, like you, he's tinkering with computers all day so you're always surfing the internet finding new toys :D you should see our study, he has the whole house configged for wireless. I love that since I like to "rule the world from my bed". Heaven forbid I have to get up

i have vista home premium and i have connected to miami university (ohio) and the ohio state university with no problems.
