No, I don't plan on applying to 32 schools. I just started putting together a list tonight and managed to eliminate about 100 schools. This is what I'm left with.

Can you please give me some feedback on any schools that you think I don't have a prayer at or any schools I might want to add. I put all of the newly opened schools because I'm assuming they are relatively easy to get into and might be safe ones.

Thanks everyone!!!

I left off most of the research heavy schools (I think). Since I only have ~100 hours of research is it even worth it to apply to the top research schools?

Buy the MSAR. Its only 25 bucks and way worth it. It breaks down every single school for you into, pre reqs, students accepted in state or out of state. You have some schools up there like Keck and Florida Intl, that accept almost 90-95% instate students. The MSAR will help you with this question.

I already went through this website and eliminated the majority of schools that heavily favor in state applicants. After looking at it again and going through the MSAR, I agree that they should be taken off the list. They are not as strict about letting in OOS students as some other schools, but they do heavily favor in state students- with my stats I would probably not be one of the select few accepted.

Thank you.

Thanks catalystik! I noticed how many other threads you've responded to and I was hoping you'd chime in.

I know my list is very long and I need to spend a lot more time looking at each school, but can you please take a cursory glance at the list and let me know if I have a good mix. Considering that I am very average, should I apply to around 20-25 schools?

By "a lot" of research, do you mean somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-3 years? I'm a post-bacc student so 9 months is the most I will have before sending in my primary. I have no interest in pursuing a research career so I don't think it's worth taking a year off to get more research experience. Do you think I need to do it during my gap year or do I have some flexibility?

A year of research is average. For the research-intense schools, 2+ years is a good goal. You might check into research expectations at Wake, Rochester, and Tufts, as it's my impression that they like research, but I'm not sure to what degree. I think BU likes it a lot.

Let me further point out that the four Jesuit schools on your list are probably going to look for a pattern of significant service to the poor among your community service listings. Commonwealth will probably want to see some experience in a rural area. I'm going to guess that Spanish fluency might be important at FIU, and they also will ask you about S Florida ties.

An MSAR will have all the mission statements and tricky "ties" expectations. It should be in your prehealth advising office or reference library.

When I interviewed there, everyone had south Florida ties. It was a small sample but still. On the secondary they explicitly ask about S Fl ties, and their mission is to produce doctors for S Fl. There might be exceptions though, for all I know.

I'm not sure I agree with this. I don't think they're that much into research so as to not give you any chance at all.
19 Mount Sinai School of Medicine
20 New York University School of Medicine
They like to see research, but they might like you if the rest of your app is strong enough. Not the highest yield school, but not out of the question.

When I interviewed at Wake Forest, I didn't get the impression at all that they're very into research. I'm not sure they mentioned research at all during the deans' presentations. Getting in is tough though because they show preference to NC residents and have a pretty small class. I think they want to see a lot of clinical experience as well. They also require all prereqs completed prior to application.
I got in at SLU without a ton of community service listed. I also straight up asked them about how their education is affected by being part of a Jesuit school. My interviewer insisted that the Jesuit thing is mostly historical (at least for the medical school). As long as you have some community service the Jesuit schools are worth a shot.
