I am applying this summer as a Colorado applicant. cGPA is 3.802, sGPA 3.7, Masters in human anatomy/physiology CSU-MSB GPA 3.702.

Multiple semesters as a TA for Human Physiology, Human Anatomy and one semester as a GTA of Human Physiology Lab, also a tutor for the school for biology, microbiology and human physiology. Supervised college teaching for a year of physiology recitation.

Worked throughout undergrad/grad school as a bagel shop manager and tutor (for the school and private)
First year after graduate school I took an industry microbiology job for a year.

Volunteered as a high school soccer coach for a full season, many weekend in kids church, random events with Boys and Girls club, Alzheimers Walks, etc. and now clinical volunteering at a local clinic for underinsured population as a health educator, volunteering with a food bank and a local elementary school.

~50 hours of shadowing in Pediatric Oncology/Family Medicine/Sports Medicine. Will have more by app time.

Over 1 year full time as a researcher at CU-Anschutz in Pediatric Neuro-Oncolgy (current position). Will have my name on 5 publications (1 first author) by app time, and I just learned that I'll be presenting my work in NYC this summer at a national conference. Through my job I have spent nearly 15 hours observing brain surgery and collecting tumors for banking purposes. I also attend bi-weekly tumor board meetings with the attending's, journal clubs, and lots of volunteering through our foundation.

LOR should be strong. One from my boss (MD), one from another physician that I work closely with, 1 from a PHD lab coordinator, 1 from director of my masters program.

Feel free to ask for more info on my EC's.

My very rough list so far:
  • Duke
  • Pitt
  • Johns Hopkins (life long dream, I realize it's a huge reach)
  • Mayo
  • Stanford
  • Emory
  • Tufts
  • U of Colorado
  • Brown
  • Boston
  • Ohio State
  • Wake Forest
  • Georgetown
  • Rosalind Franklin
  • Creighton
  • Oregon Health
  • Rush
  • George Washington
  • Cincinnati
  • Vermont
  • Illinois
  • Drexel
  • Temple
DO: RVU, ?

I would love some input on my list and on the strength of my application so far.

Thanks.

I would add USF, SLU, Albany, Albert Einstein, Eastern Virginia, Loyola, Quinnipac, UM, Vermont, Tulane, VCU.

If you can't afford all these extra schools, take out some of your reach schools

I suggest:

U VM
USF Morsani
UCF
Duke
Case
Mayo
Miami
St. Louis
Albany
Albert Einstein
Rochester
Rush
Rosy Franklin
BU
MCW
Hofstra
NYMC
VCU
EVMS
Wake Forest
Jefferson
Temple
Drexel
Creighton
George Washington
Emory
USC/Keck
Tulane
Dartmouth
Loyola
Oakland-B
U CO
U UT
Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)
Any DO program. I can't recommend Touro-NY, or LUCOM, for different reasons. Start list with both RVU's, DMU, AZCOM and TUNCOM

Thank you for your advice. Do you see anything I can focus on for the next few months to help my application?

I am actively obtaining clinical volunteer hours but it's a slow process (5 hours a month) due to the clinic only being open 4 nights a month, 5 hours at a time. I'm hoping to add another 50 hours of shadowing by June and I'm working on joining a local hospital as a general volunteer (~4 hours a week, 50 hours by app time). 3 of my 5 publications are under review, the other two will be submitted early this summer. I don't envision being a part of any other manuscripts between now and app time. I might submit my work for one more conference, so maybe one more presentation.

Any advice on other ec's?
