I'm applying to ophthalmology for the match this year in Canada, and have to submit a rank order list for the programs. For my first choice I'm stuck between two programs, one which I think is the better program and the other with greater prestige (better known in the US).

(I know I'll be happy in both and as long as I match somewhere, but I have to choose one for my rank order list by tomorrow.)

I know that I am extremely likely to want to do a fellowship after residency and I would love to get into a well known fellowship in the US. So I was wondering if the name of the place where I did my residency in Canada would play a significant role in getting a competitive fellowship spot in the States later on.

Gotta know by tomorrow, so quick answers are much appreciated 😀

Fair or not, the answer is yes. Name is important. Fellowship matching is a lot about connections That said, you should still probably go with the program with which you are most comfortable, and let the chips fall where they may.

Be less vague. Which two programs are you choosing between?

I can't be specific right now, but just dropped you a PM about that. Thanks 🙂
