Is it common for dental schools to hold out on an applicant, and wait for an academic update before giving them an interview? Does this apply to the majority of applicants who are competing for post-dec1 spots?

will schools actually take the time and go back and see if an applicant improved over the summer and/or fall? or does the update not even play a big role?

Also, school resumes early Jan for most of us, but it will take another 2 wks probably for aadsas to get our transcrpts + verify. Would it be smart to email schools we have high interest in to let them know about our grades?

I have a question very similar to this so I didn't want to open a new thread for it (and hopefully I won't hijack yours either). I was wondering how much of an effect the academic update has on your application if you've already interviewed there but haven't heard back about an acceptance/rejection yet. Will they get the update and be like, hmm, they did really well and their gpa went up, maybe we'll accept them, or do they just stick it in our file and it doesn't really have any effect?

@flying rider- Some schools require the academic update before giving a candidate an acceptance letter.
