could anyone suggest schools that have accepted really low gpa people like myself? to all the survivors on the low gpa thread that succeeded and made it in... CONGRATS! and to all the people like me who are still struggling to find a postbac program to even be accepted to, good luck and keep striving! thanks guys for any input!

How low are we talking? Most programs won't take people lower than 2.7. Maybe 2.5 if you're URM or disadvantaged in some way.

2.7 seems to be the going trend, but of course that just means you meet the criteria to apply. I think those schools try to get people with higher GPA's so they have "more to work with". Especially those more well known programs.

2.5 also sounds plausible but I have not seen it in person. On a side note, there may also be an MCAT component. Usually its lik 24 (average of 8).

You are talking osteopathic schools right? I dont know any US allopathic school that has an average matriculant GPA of 2.7 or MCAT of 24.

We're talking post-bacc programs in general; not every allopathic or osteopathic school has a post-bacc program. There are post-bacc programs, however, who will accept students with these stats, and sometimes lower depending on your status.

How low is too low? Also, do they take majors and schools into consideration?

Each program varies, which are you looking into? The ones with linkages are very competative and if you're under a 3.5 its pretty hopeless. Why not take the courses on your own if your GPA is that low? Get some confidence before you apply and waste a lot of money.

thanks for all the replies... 2.8 is where i stand at the moment and then i graduate in a couple of weeks... so now i'm looking into postbac schools that will hopefully accept me. what schools (like names of schools) would be more accepting of my gpa so that i could look into those schools. i already visited the aamc web and looked at a few diff schools but would like to hear from the public what they think are my chances at which schools instead of reading the general stats on their websites.

I think VCU requires a 22MCAT and 2.75 GPA for their postbac.

2.8 you are okay...what matters is if you have matured, learned to be responsible...im currently a grad student in the UC system...working on a PhD and will make the transition to an MD, (after prereqs), but the point is this...i didn't have a 3.8 or 4.0... I had a 2.8 overall...with my last two years above a 3.0, now I am currently working a 3.7 -3.8...but I work my butt off...GPA is important..but there is hope!! DONT STOP DREAMING!!!
