I recently just got an acceptance to a prestigious university that has asked that I make a formal commitment within 2 weeks. And by this they mean a DEFINITNE commitment. If I accept, then I have to withdraw all of my other active applications and current accetpances. The school will then notify all other schools of my "status" and I will essentially be removed from the application process.

But, I still have not heard back from all of my interviews at other schools let alone all of my other secondaries that are still in limbo in various admissions departments. I have also been accepted to another school that I also really like and need time to compare the two.... With a 2 week deadline, there's no second look weekend, no time to hear from other schools, no time to even get used to the thought of going there and no time to figure out which school I like better...

I called the AAMC and they're technically not able to do this, however the school has maintained that it's a longstanding clause in their acceptance process.

Any thoughts?

McGill University, which is LCME certified (US accreditation status).

that sounds like a bull**** policy...if the AAMC says they can't do it, it seems ridiculous that they get to anyways. oh well...i didn't even apply there, but i'm outraged for you. i think if it were me, i'd tell them to piss off...but i get rather turned off by the arrogance of some "prestigious" institutions.

In Canada you are usually only allowed to hold one acceptance (some exceptions maybe, but in general you have to make the decisions as they come).

McGill probably isn't a member of the AAMC either.

Good luck with your decision.

I don't think this is true. Applications to McGill are not through AMCAS, therefore they have no access to the list of schools you have been accepted to and are still holding a place at (which becomes available sometime in the spring I believe). McGill asks you to make a 500 dollar deposit to hold your place (at least they did last year), but you are only officially registered when you show up for orientation in August. Technically you can even hold on to two acceptances past the AMCAS deadline because the other AMCAS school does not know you have been accepted to McGill. You should probably call the school and explain your situation/get a clarification.
