I'm just wondering which schools have laid-back interviews where they don't sit you down for an hour and drill you with questions.

Thanks

Boston University is one. Very chill.

Midwestern, Nova, NYU

USC - None at all, but they take a writing sample. Mine was "Describe a job you've had." Someone else had "What is a book you've read recently, and would you recommend it." 😛

UNLV - Student Interview + Faculty Interview. Both laid back.

Tufts - Student OR Faculty Interview ("random"), 3 questions, short, standard.

i think it really depends on who you get for your interviewer(s)..

but in my experience, i've had really laid back interviews at columbia, upenn, case, and ucla. the michigan mmi's weren't that stressful, just different. the only two interviews that i thought were a bit tough were stony brook and nyu, but the other interviewees at these two interviews told me their interviews weren't all that stressful..

My UW interview was actually kinda stressful but it all depends on your interviewers. One of my interviewers asked tough scenario questions and the other interviewer asked really simple questions in between. It was odd and amusing cuz the one interviewer was almost apologetic that the other was asking such complicated things.

No worries though, all my other friends had all friendly interviews so I think that's rare

Yikes that sounds intense! Did you get in?

UoP was super chill. My interviewer looked at my app, mumbled that everything looked good, then started telling me off-color jokes and stories from his life. I didn't do much except listen and ask him questions about his life! The student interview was super chill as well.

Also check out the interview feedback forum.

I thought Nova was great. It was the ONLY school where I didn't have the why dentistry question and it was a conversation. Midwestern was not very relaxed I thought.

Yeah, so it obviously didn't just seem hard because I was bombing it or something. Tufts and UPenn were both cakewalks. Harvard was a little tougher because of length.

Pitt, UoP, Louisville, Buffalo were fine. Temple was ok but it was a group interview so it is a little different. Case's was ok, not grilling not super chill.

I had the same experience as a1pha at UW. The male interviewer was friendly and laid back and asked a bunch of get-to-know-you, conversational questions. The female interviewer asked tough questions including one where I basically had no answer and it was incredibly awkward. Overall though it's not too bad.

My advice when you're preparing is to look at the SDN interview feedback for UW and make sure you have good answers for those questions - they do reuse them!

UT-Memphis has a pretty laid back interview session. It lasts about 10-15 minutes, and they just ask basic questions about yourself (ie, why you want to go into dentistry, what you've done to explore the field, etc.)
