Science GPA 3.0

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What other stats to you have?
It's not likely, but if you have a good MCAT to balance, strong upward trend, and excellent ECs you could stand a chance, but no one here can comment without knowing more.

Oh no, I don't have that yet. I just wanted to see if it was a good enough goal to aim for. I'm doing princeton review mcat classes and using kaplan materials, so hoping to ace the MCAT, never took it before, besides that I have a good amount of volunteer experience, shadowing experience, will be starting research. Have good EC's (Student Ambassador, President of a Club and a part of other clubs) I will also be working as a phlebotomist for more clinical experience. My gpa is the only thing truly lacking in my application. I have two majors now. Biochemistry & Psychology, going to add another physical science major to boost my sgpa, so then the very least I can apply to an SMP if I don't get in.

3.0 is low enough to get screened at some schools.

To get accepted with a 3.0, you need something unique.

The ECs you have are run-of-the-mill. I can almost guarantee there is an applicant who has a higher GPA that will apply to the same schools with something similar to your aforementioned ECs. Adcoms are going to take the higher GPA applicant over you. You need something else to give yourself an edge.

Peace corps, your own non-profit, collegiate/professional athlete, artist/musician, something along those lines. Something that brings diversity to the class and demonstrates your ability to commit. It's not going to be an activity that you just decide to pick up for a few months to boost your application.

I had a 2.95 sGPA and ~3.1 cGPA with an upward trend (~3.5 cGPA and sGPA last 2 years of undergrad), strong performance in an SMP, slightly above average MCAT and I was accepted at a MD school this past cycle (my second time applying).
Just keep your head down and work hard. It won't be easy, but it's not impossible. Good luck!
I should add that the MD school I have been accepted at is my state school with a strong in-state bias. And I was given E01 status on my AMCAS.

From the sound of it an SMP seems like the best bet.
Without an MCAT score it's hard to give you a concrete answer, but unless you knock it out of the park I honestly don't see it happening.
That 3.0 wouldn't happen to be because a very weak freshman year would it?

Kinda, It was sophomore year and the Gen Chem professor I had gave me the creeps so I never attended class and ended up failing. Its not a legitimate reason unfort, but it is what it is, I was young and stupid. I did my AMCAS gpa and my gpa went down .7 and change points =(.

Thank you very much!

I know you wanted MD....

But you can always retake the science courses you did badly on and apply through AACOMAS (osteopathic schools).
They allow grade replacements.

Yes, I know,I am strongly considering DO schools as well, but I don't want to limit myself to just DO or MD schools. I'm not doing Carrib tho because of how hard it is to find a residency =(

You need to be truly exceptional to get in with a 3.0. Your chances are so slim you may be better off cutting your losses and finding another career path.

op what type of undergrad did you go to? 3.0 from somewhere like MIT, Princeton, or Johns Hopkins is different from 3.0 from your average place.
