I've taken my pre-med classes these past two years. Do my basic science grades from undergrad from 7 years ago count toward my BCPM?
Thanks. (i really hope not!!)

Yes, they do. Sorry.

yikes. thank you though!
You're welcome. Don't forget tho, while computers and screens will see those grades and count then, the people that make the final decisions will see how long ago those were taken and if your current grades prove you are a strong student, they will place greater weight on the new grades.

What MWillie said. If those grades are mediocre, it probably won't end up affecting you at all. If they are horrible, you might get automatically screened out (some won't accept below a 3.0, a 3.5, etc.)

Okay, maybe i'm panicking here, but you mean that if my science grades from seven years are below a 3.0 or 3.5 by themselves, they might screen me out? Or including my newer grades also? Thanks!

They'll average every post-secondary level science class (biology, chemistry, physics, and math) into one BCPM cumulative GPA. If that entire GPA is really low, then it's going to hurt you when schools automatically screen out a certain threshold. You're not doomed completely by any means, but some schools won't offer you a secondary (but some schools give everyone a secondary, so you might be okay with those). However, if your cumulative is something like a 3.4+ and your current grades are a 3.8+ then I'd say you're in great shape.

Basically, they want to see if you're capable of a med school curriculum. If you have a positive upward trend (bad grades a long time ago are MUCH less important than good grades last semester), and good grades now, then your overall prognosis SHOULD be pretty bright. 🙂

True. 👍

i took my prerecs about 7 years ago and some of them went really well, others not so much. Ultimately, the bad ones were factored in with the good, recent ones, but on the interviews, the comment keep surfacing about the recency of the better grades. They pointed out that I had gotten poor grades in XYZ class during undergrad, but did it later and respected that I had enough humility to go back and take it again.

Overall, your GPA may be low, but they do notice the trend in your grades and the AMCAS printout they receive of your grades shows your courseload each semester/quarter. Additionally, the report they receive records the BCMP GPA, Overall GPA, and Postbac GPA. If you score well on the MCAT now and couple that with your postbac performace and recent better grades, many schools will look favorably upon this (as several acceptances seems to indicate 😉 )

G'luck!

I have an incomplete in chem and a drop in bio from about 10 years ago. Still got in this year. So have faith.
