sorry if this has been asked before please answer or post a link where it has been answered

does someone have list like of how many questions out of the 340 something you can miss to get a certain score like 260, 250, 240,230,220,210 and etc

also why don't students get like 95-98% of the questions correct is it because some are outlandish or simply that most US med students don't get enough time to get the material down at a very good recall level????

It's a tough question to answer because there's so many factors: like stupid mistakes, non-scored questions, etc. Also, a percentage correct does not equal your score on the exam. For example, there may be Exam A where the questions are VERY difficult and tricky where a 60% correct will get you a 225. Or Exam B has a little easier questions, but you need 75% correct to get the same score.

Some of the questions are very tough, requiring 3rd, 4th, 5th order reasoning. Some require either a LOT of inference or a lot of clinical knowledge - some of which we haven't really done before. Some questions require insanely small details. Even A students forget small details when there is such a giant sea of information.

Usually a 70% correct on UWorld will translate to a 230-240 or so. UWorld is supposed to be very close to the real thing, so you can make your own conclusions from that.

This isn't a very good answer, but the truth is that you probably won't get one. There's just too many factors and too much variability.

Here is chart with NBME/USMLE/%% correct//%%ile compilation. Also, the score on the NBME exams can go to 1000 actually (anything over 800 is very rare though).

One of our deans commented on the fact that one of our graduates Step 3 score that was reported to the school was a 860.
