The In-N-Out Emergency Medicine program in Las Vegas seems to have quite a competitive program, at least from what I hear on this board. I personally was not too impressed -- I guess I am just a Fuddruckers boy.......

Hope that helps! 😉

MLK in Los Angeles is highly competitive. One of the most prestigious programs in country. Usually you have to have 240 or above, but they might make an exception for you.

ah, ignore my callous colleagues and their comments.

there truly are no "top EM programs" in the nation. They all have different flavors. With your board scores, you shouldn't have a trouble atleast jumping over that hurdle. Apply to where you want to go.

Perhaps if you ask questions like "I am more interested in programs with an EMS background" or something along the likes, we may be able to help. But unlike surg or IM, there aren't really any "top EM programs" that you have to have a certain board score #.

thank you for your honest opinion, just wasn't sure on the EM process.

Oh, and avoid places where sanctimonious...um...people...have no sense of humor, and think it's a badge of honor in EM to be worked into submission. Hell, if you want to work so much that you don't have time for anything else, do general surgery - you'll certainly get what you want then.

I dont think In N Out has a GSurg or IM program. Wendy's, however, is open late, and waffle house is 24/7

Apollyon,

Nice stuff.... Best part is the stuff about the waffle house is so true and for some reason the thought is making me hungry!

What has 8 eyes and 4 teeth?

Night shift at the Waffle House!

After tubing a guy today, I noted the tube position (and the general lack of dentition) and announced: "the tube's is at 22 at the...uh... tooth".

Seriously...that one brown little dude was getting awfully lonely.

Take care,
Jeff

That reminds me of something from a year ago - this CRNA was telling me about a similarly challenged patient that, after he was induced, she saw this loose tooth (#9), which she took out right there, lest it become a foreign body. After the patient completed his procedure, he asked her why she didn't take the rest of them out while she was there.

Thanks, dude--I nearly sprayed orange juice all over my keyboard.

😛

The only time I've ever been even vaguely close to tooth damage around an ET tube was during my fourth year anesthesia month. I'd tubed a 'dentition-challenged' individual (tooth:tatoo ratio well under 1) with no damage at all.

During extubation, the tube must have generated some airflow past one of the few remaining inferior teeth. Out it popped, coming to rest in this guys oropharynx. The anesthesiologist and I just starred at it in disbelief until it occurred to us that, just maybe, we might want to get it outta there quickly.

Who says medicine can't be surreal.

Take care,
Jeff

I did get accepted at a Long John Silver's program but the hours were horrendus and the friggen paper hats incongruous with my fashion taste.

Good call. I had a friend who did a sub-I at Popeye's, and she smelled like grease for two weeks after. Plus they misspelled a bunch of stuff on her evaluation, making it nearly useless.

My suggestion is to find a place that you think you are a good fit and will be happy rather than something you think will look good on paper in 3 or 4 years. It's supposed to be a residency, not a prison term. The food would definitely be better in prison, though.

And while I wish you the warmest congratulations about your step 1 score, keep in mind that when it comes to the match, in isolation, 239 and four bucks will get you a latte at Starbucks. Getting into a "top program" requires the whole package.. grades, reccomendations, extracurriculars, etc.
