If taking the step in August, would the whole third Wednesday rule still be true?
I was thinking because there are more people taking it around that time, it'd take longer to get your score.

Also, a friend of mine told me the same week (Monday-Friday) would count as part of the third Wednesday rule? I figured you would need to take it by Tuesday before... But does anyone know if the window extends to the Friday of the same week?

Yes Monday-Friday can be treated as Wednesday rule.

Example: If you take exam between May 6 (Monday) to May 10 (Friday), it will be treated that exam is related to that Wednesday (May 8).

So when you take exam between May 6-10,2013 then results will be most likely declared by 3rd Wednesday (May 29,2013). This formula works 99% time.

It works through out the year except when test item pool modifications which occur routinely every month of May. In that case they may take 4 to 6 weeks to declare results ( maximum up to 2 months from pool modification).

Other than that it takes 3 weeks. Thanks

EXAMPLE: Read this usmle announcement below

Most score reporting of Step 1 results occurs within four weeks of testing. However, because of necessary modifications to the test item pool, there will be a delay in reporting for some examinees testing beginning the week of May 13th. The target date for reporting Step 1 scores for most examinees testing the week of May 13th through late June will be Wednesday, July 10, 2013. For examinees whose circumstances require that they receive Step 1 scores before July 10, it is recommended that they take Step 1 no later than May 10, 2013.

In above announcement people who take in late June ( example: June 19 ) again will get results in 3weeks( July 10) but who take in May 2013 will have to wait more than 4weeks( July 10)
