Are they suggesting they become a requirement to be done at some point during residency?

no they state that you should have exposure to these operations during residency and should be able to perform them (do what degree of perfection?? i dont know) as an attending, BUT there are no requirements for specific numbers of times you have seen or done them

We get pimped all the time in my residency on how to doan SMA embolectomy. One day i asked one of the vasc attendings how many they have done in the last decade . . . . .ONE! and that as a VASC attending
none of the gen surgeons had dont one in practice
BUT i guess they want you to be competant enough to be able to perform them??
