My scores are;

Organic Chem 21 - 91.6 %
General Chem 21 - 89.7 %
Biology 18 - 72.1 %
Reading 18 - 52.2 %
Quantitative Reasoning 18 - 86.6 % < ---- I KNOW
Perceptual Ability 18 - 55.3 %
Academic Average : 19 ( 85.4 %)
Total Science 20 (91.3 %) <---yay i guess?

Should i apply this cycle? Overall gpa 3.5 sci gpa a bit over 3.1.
about 100 + hours shadowing, and recently started volunteering at the dental dept at local hospital. I have local volunteering hours as well .

I have letters from my orgo teacher,, and my physics professor, as well as a few letters from my major dept. I also have committee letter as well.

Also, im not sure if this might help but ive never received a B or lower on any course.

I posted this info in dat discussions but not getting too many hits.

Thanks all, and gd bless.

With a sGPA at 3.1, and AA at 19...I would apply to your top choices, not because you'll get an interview invite, but because next year you can say on your application that you are a re-applicant. I believe it shows them "perseverance".

Your total science score was 20 right? I agree that you should apply to 6-8 schools. I think your dat scores/ogpa will merit interview invites depending on where you apply. What's the worst that could happen, a little money spent on applications? Besides looks like you have completed most of the items you need to apply. Write a quality personal statement and see what happens.

Yes, apply, and do it soon. You might have a chance at some of the big schools like NYU, BU and Tufts.

...don't see how that adds up...

anyway, july is still early enough so that will work in your favor. 19/~3.1 isn't particularly strong but people get in with those stats every year and the rest of your app seems solid. i'd say apply to 8 and hit the larger, expensive schools with lowers admissions stats very hard. start practicing mock interviews NOW...you're exactly the kind of borderline applicant that could make or break an acceptance with a solid/poor interview. good luck.

What doesn't add up? I'd love to know caus I also have some weird feeling bout my average. I can upload my scores as well

your dat scores look fine...what weird feelings are you talking about?

I meant your sGPA...never having gotten a B or lower means it would have to be at least 3.33, right? (all B+'s alone would give you that.)

I was wondering the same thing! lol nice reading comprehension Rock

i may have jumped the gun a bit. Let me explain;

my school is really REALLY infamous for its toughness in the science courses and my commttiee ta told me that dental schools know this thus, in 95 percent of my pre dental classes ( chem orgo) i received a flat B in.

I got only ONE b- in orgo II and this previous semester i got an A- in physics II. I have NEVER received any other b- or anything lower than a B in ANY class. Most of my other classes are A's and B+. My major gpa is like 3.7 -3.8 or so not sure which one.

I have calculated my science gpa and im not sure why but it rounds to about a 3.1 or so. Maybe im calculating it wrong?
my gpa has been in an upward trend. I will be applying this cycle because everyoen told me my total science is good enough and cause i didnt clash into any of the 16/17 ranges.

Thank you all for your support and any tips/suggestions would be FANTASTIC. 👍

that's less "jumping the gun" and more just saying two completely different things, but whatever the true details of your application are, it make no difference to me.

if you're counting on your school's "prestige" (or how "hard" science classes there are) to save your GPA and make it look better to adcoms, though, don't count on it. that's not how it works in dental school admissions...not to mention that there are going to be thousands of applicants in the pool who went to as prestigious or more prestigious schools AND have higher GPAs. "spray and pray" was the term someone used...that's exactly what you'll need to do. you're not going into this packing a bazooka by any means.

apply to as many schools as you possibly can. Many will reject you based on GPA.
Send the app in ASAP

i was the one who used spray and pray. Thanks though lol

what about someone in his position, but somewhat opposite?
3.2 overall, 3.57 science, 19 DAT.
similar chances?

the problem with your numbers is the BCP... its probably lower than 3.0.... this will give you problems landing interviews.

IMO, odds for interviews are against you.

No, your chances are alot higher. Anecdotally, BCP and sGPA are more favored than overall GPA (ofc, all 3 are important), but on a hierarchy basis, the science stuffs are favored more.

No, the 3.1 science gpa i've included is ONLY biology, chemistry orgo chem and physics (those are the only science courses i have taken so far). Im taking mathematics, and upper biology courses next semester which im hoping will bring up that science gpa. Why would you infer that my BCP grades are lower?

Would you still say that this was a problem for me? Do you personally think i should study all darn over again for this test and get a higher grade?

ohhhh when you said science was 3.1 (which includes math, engineering, and a whole bunch of "other sciences"). I figured surely, the BCP might be even lower since BCP credits are usually alot higher than the "other sciences" ~ something musta brought it down from 3.5 to sup-3.0

So you haven't taken any "other sciences"?.... just pure BCP?

well yeah, i havent really had the room for em in my schedule. Im taking calculus next semester, and im probably going to be complementing that with anatomy and physiology. I really wish i had taken math and all the other "easier" sciences at my school so that applying this cycle wouldn't have to be such a burden with my low sci gpa. Sigh#
