I am not sure what to think. I have a 3.4 gpa and here are my scores:
QR 330
R Comp 370
Bio 360
Gen chem 350
Organic 310
Physics 300
Total sci 330
AA 340

What do you think? Should I plan on a retake?

Congrats! Those are great scores 😀

As far as retaking, I have heard of people getting invited to interview with your stats with no trouble. If you have the time to take it again (i.e., if you aren't applying for the 2011 entering class) then you could always schedule another test date. But I would take a break if I were you - OAT prep is draining!

great scores. you'll get in, no prob. May i ask what your RC strategy was?

Hi, tarheels,

Thanks so much for your advice. I used Kaplan's strategy for Reading Comp, with a few modifications:
  • When I took paper practice tests, I noticed that it was much easier for me to remember the location of information. I thought this might be because the layout of the passage I skimmed was the same as the one I used to answer questions. I could also remember relatively where on the page these paragraphs were. This led me to skip the initial passage reading screen and instead use only the smaller version that appears along with the questions. This way, with no conscious effort on my part, I could remember approximately where information was located. For me, this was key.
  • I skimmed all of the questions first before reading the passage and taking notes so that I had an idea of what kind of information I was looking for.
  • I read a lot-- anything I can get my hands on-- but in particular I increased the amount of journal articles I read in the weeks leading up to the test. I would advise you to pick a journal that interests you (such as Science, Nature, Cell, NEJM) and page through it. How much you read and how early you start might depend on how familiar you are with scientific reading when you begin.

I hope that helps-- good luck!

Thank you for your input!
I'll definitely be picking up Science articles and get to practicing.

OP, your scores are fine. Good luck applying this summer.

To everyone else preparing for the upcoming cycle, STOP READING POSTS ABOUT SCORES! I've browsed this forum since 2009 and applied/got accepted to opt school for the Class of 2015. I took my OAT the summer after my soph year and made a 320. After reading on the forum about how everyone else was getting ~340-360s with similar GPAs to mine, I was discouraged and decided to take the test again after junior yr and right before the OptomCas opened. I ended up with the same score. My gpa was 3.71. When I told opt schools I had retaken the test, they all laughed and questioned why. Almost verbatim from one school, "We commend your choice to retake the OAT, although unnecessary. Your original score is very competitive for the upcoming cycle. I look forward to seeing your new results, and be on the lookout for a interview invite from our school."

Short story, I wasted an entire summer of studying and stressing over a test because other members on this forum said I needed to to become competitive. Not at all bragging, I applied to 5 schools; interviewed and accepted at 2 and declined interviews at the other 3. So, PLEASE stop comparing yourself to everyone else on here! Most people that post their scores are either 1) scared because of previous posts, or 2) arrogant kids trying to boast about their accomplishments. My score wasn't anything spectacular, but I will be an optometrist come May 2015. 😀
