i agree, grammar is a HUGE problem. It's a problem if you are taking the PCAT, taking a writing sample if you managed to get an interview, and during the interview process itself. It's also a problem when drafting your personal statement.

So in short, if you can't get that straight in real life, you will have serious issues getting into a pharmacy program.

and i noticed the OP changed his first post...even that is grammatically incorrect!

I know aton of walgreens execs and Pharmacy manager's who are foreign born and even though they arnt as perfect as some in grammar and english they managed to rise to the top bc of other qualities. Besides a pharmacist spends 95 % (retail pharm) behind a computer and dont get to speak with patients alot. it sounds crazy buts its true all they tend to do mostly is review work techs do.

You misunderstand. This is very much about the topic. The OP's PCAT composite was less than 10%, and the reading and writing component of that score is significant. Don't sell your foreign-born managers and DOPs short- they would not have risen to that capacity if they were unable to write properly in English. Like someone else said, it doesn't have to be perfect, but it does need to be understandable. Speaking with an accent does not make someone appear illiterate; ritin crap lik dis duz, KWIM?

If you think that a raging inability to write understandably in English won't keep someone out of graduate or professional school in this country, you are mistaken. It's very easy to justify one's own shortcomings with "it's no big deal" and "a bunch of others have sucky grammar," but the fact is, they had to have written clearly enough to get granted an interview, and their spoken language had to be understandable enough to make it past the interview board.

Al we know about you is what you present to us. If we have a bad impression of you, that's because that's what you projected.

Here's a life tip: people make judgment calls all the time. Saying "don't judge me" is mothing more than a buzzword; it's meaningless, because the people you deal with will make judgment calls based on how ou speak (or in this case how you write), how you react/respond, the choices you make. You have been, you are, and you will be judged on various levels all thoughout your life.

We know you got 3% on your PCAT... meaning that 97% of the people who took the PCAT beat you.

You want constructive criticism, and we're giving it to you. If you got a 3%, that would mean that your hold on the English language is far from perfect, unless the other 97% are all gifted in English. Read more books, study more vocabulary words, and practice writing essays while studying for the other sections.

this is the worst logic I have ever read on here, holy crap is your brain on? and you obviously have a simple minded retail mentality about pharmacy, go do some research.

anyway, if you fail at grammar, you will fail a good number of sections on the PCAT, simple. and if you fail at communicating your original intent, you will fail being an effective pharmacist and just might end up killing someone because of it.

maybe you all need to look at other lines of work and stop looking at the paycheck aspect of health professions!

Wow. I'd love to read the personal essays of the grammatically challenged. You can try to justify your low scores all you want and say that verbal ability doesn't matter, but remember that pharmacy is a competitive field and 90+% of us not only have better test scores, but better essays. People who are confident yet incapable of writing, comprehending, calculating, etc. are not fit for the field.

U go to Pharm school not to learn english, if u can write and speak english properly then thats great but u dont need to be perfect or score a 80 % on pcat english to do well.

Everyone here is too nice. 3% Give me a break ... you should be put in some psych ward or go join some simple trade like.. pop can picking.. If I took the test in grade 8, I could have gotten at least 30%. You are definately not fit to be in Pharmacy or even university/college for that matter I sincerely hope you are a troll because getting 3% would mean you are a complete failure at life.

If there will be ever a pharmacist that got 3% on their pcat their first try (doesn't matter if they got 80% on their next try.. unless they were completely hung over and hallucinating the first try) I would leave the profession because I would not want to be associated with that type of person.
